Hey I drove a Prius and got 67mpg driving normally no pulse and glide so it is possible - the girl that owns it get 44mpg so it all depends upon how you drive it.

Also. I live in Orange county and do a lot of freeway driving that I keep @ 65MPH. I have always used name brand gasoline and there I think I traveled up a hill like a year ago. Plus mine is an automatic so I can't control the RPM's unless I shut off the OD.
and their advertisement falls in line with the epa fuel estimates. they don't have to state it everywhere they advertise for the car.

even though the tc gets around 34 mpg on the interstate at 55 mph, toyota can't say that it does, they can only state the 29 highway that the epa estimated.

toyota did not lie, the xa and xb get atleast 30 mpg in either city or highway. they can't speak for your driving habits or climate. heat saps gas mileage too. anyway, what is your mileage now? is your xa broken in yet? like i said before, new cars need to be broken in properly before they get their best gas mileage.

After launching my car at 3 grand, squealing tires and making my neck sore, I got 34.8 mpg. Not bad for driving like a jerk and only using 3 gears in city with some highway driving with all 5 gears.

I have a co worker who traded her xb for a prius, she got 37mpg for a first few tanks, then 57 there after with her commute. Her xb she said got 43.

I have never, EVER gotten over 31 MPG in my 2006 xA auto transmission. I live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area of Texas, so I do have to deal with really stinkin' hot weather, using the A/C alot, alot of traffic in the city (and on the freeways at certain times), and driving 65-70 MPH is normal here unless you want to get slaughtered on the freeways. I drive mostly freeway miles, and the best I've ever gotten in my xA is 31 MPG. I have had it since it had about 75 miles on it, and it now has 21,100, so I doubt I'm ever going to get better mileage.

My husband drives a 2006 Honda Accord and he gets better gas mileage than I do, and he drives mostly city miles. We took his car on a road trip to New Mexico for our honeymoon last year, and he averaged 35 MPG. That's pretty dang good for a much bigger, more powerful car than my little xA.

I love my car, but I have been truly disappointed in the gas mileage. I don't drive like a maniac and I don't romp on my car. I am seriously looking at trading it in for the xD or maybe even a different brand to get better mileage, since I drive 60 miles one way each day.

I have an auto '05 xA. I have been tracking my mpg for a long time and i get anywhere from 32 to 35mpg on average. I have gotten as high as 38mpg. This using the same gas station when at all possible, and filling to 2 clicks then dividing totals miles by the number of gallons pumped in at fillup.

I drive 73 miles to and from work (146 miles a day).

The one way trip is 61.5 highway miles. I hit 2 choke points of traffic each day on the highway then the other 11.5 miles involve traffic and stoplights. I have to travel about 15 miles of steep hills/mountains.

The highway miles are at 75-80mph (65mph speed limits) and the AC is on when its hot out.

Currently creeping up on 110,000 miles.

Well here is the latest update; I just finished my last tank of gas and it went up from the one before that.
Here is how it looked:

1st tank: 21 MPG
2nd tank: 22 MPG
3rd tank: 26.5 MPG
4th tank: 29 MPG

So maybe it was just the break in period because mine just keeps going up and up now.

NOTE: I run the A/C Semi-regularly and I do about 65-70 MPH on the freeway in my automatic.

well that sounds almost normal. my gas in my xB was sort of below my expectations in the begingin but im now easily getting near 350miles a tank.

i run BP Gasoline and Royal Ppurple Synthetic which also gave me 2+ MPG.

and these figures are with the wheels i have. Sportmax 501's 15X8's on 195/50R16's

A high quality Synthetic oil also helps in mileage. Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Amsol, Castrol etc etc.

Glad everything is getting a little better TheUglyOne

Yeap, once I hit 2000 miles I don't even have to try to get over 30...I drove the car like I "should be" (because of my age, according to my dad...ha!) and I still get over 30... I think my lowest fillup was 33mpg after the 2000 mile mark.
I do over 90% of my driving on the freeway at about 70-75mph with a little bit of gridlock and stop-and-go here and there... This car does great.

I just stuck a K&N Typhoon on there today and I'm curious to see if that'll help me at all... If it doesn't, I don't mind...it sounds a lot better regardless. =)

What percentage is freeway driving?

I bought my '06 xA July of last year, and I had the same concern about the gas mileage, but it steadily got better. It didn't even out out until I had almost 2000 miles on it! Now, I'm getting on up close to 20k miles and its doing great. I haven't done the exact mileage in quite a while (I guess I should) but I know my car enough now that I'm not having a problem with it. But I thought everyone knew that once you get a new car that the mileage isn't what its supposed to be generally. I guess I was wrong.

Even when my car was delivered to me, he told me that for the first 100 -300 miles or so, drive it easily and not so much over 50 or 60 until the car adjusted to its new driver. That's what I did and it did great. Anyway.

You did it right - you have to take it easy in the first few hundred miles to let the rings and cylinders to polish properly. A lot of "mechanics" say to break them in fast but they end up with more friction and low mileage even though it runs ok. I took it really easy and got 32mpg right away in my xB and now average 42.6mpg. Don't forget it is more than just the engine breaking in at first - the gears have to break in also. Most important is light throttle and rev it up a little - use engine braking down hills helps a real lot also because it get the piston traveling a little extra and moved the oil up to the top rings to lubricate and clean them of metal wear and carbon deposits.

And believe it or not - a good polish on the body helps you get better mileage at higher speeds a lot so keep it clean!

i remember shortly after getting my tc, my dad took it for a test drive after picking it up from the dealership for me after it had its accessories installed. told me it handled great at 100 mph. i yelled to him about how that wasn't good for it since it only had like 30 miles on it. he lied and said it didn't go over 3000 rpms which we know is impossible. brought it back with 120 miles on it.

weird guy he is. has two corvettes and a porsche, but for some reason he just LOVES driving my scion tc.

Bovine scat. If they truly will bash your car off the road, then let them do it and spend their insurance settlement on a car that you like instead. You are responsible for your own actions, and to avoid obstacles in front of you, not to accommodate every leadfoot that shows up on your back bumper.

I drive 55 on freeways with speed limits ranging from 55 to 70 mph. People go around me. Of course I stay in the rightmost lane unless I happen to come upon a slower driver. Traffic on 55 mph freeways averages 60-65, while the outstate 70 mph zones cruise at upwards of 85 mph.

I know that last bit after finding myself late to a relative's wedding. :D Got 34 mpg on that tank instead of my usual 36-40.

I've got the Enkei 17's on my RS1 and all this talk about fuel efficiency has me wondering on whether I should put 15's on the car instead. At her best day my RS1 only gets to 28-29mpgs. Those of you getting these nice 35+ mpg's are you doing them on 15's/17's? What psi are your tires at for the aforementioned sizes? I'm honestly getting some mpg envy seeing auto xA's with those kinds of mpg numbers being thrown about.

I'm running 15's and 34psi. I'm getting 38-40mpg highway and 32 City.
