Default New Xa has engine hum when in drive/brake pressed.

So I jsut picked up my car yesterday. Love it... THere are 2 things I have noticed. One is the coolent light. Its red when I crank it up.. and turns to blue for a minute or 2(stays on...) and then goes off. Is this normal?

Also when the car is in drive.. but with the brake pressed... I hear this rather loud engine hum. It goes off when the car is swithced to reverse or park... I am guessing it is normal too... its almost like a clicking sound of some sort... The car just broke 100 miles. Is this sound normal. With the radio on.. you cant hear it... and I cant really hear it when I am driving.... I guess.. since its a 4 cylinder..its gonna be loud... since i got somewhat of a lead foot... coming from a v6. So what you guys think?

blue = cold coolant temp. the enigne isn't warmed up. I think the noise is normal.

Checkout the CD that came with your owners manual.

Here is another heads up on the blue light... the tranny will not shift into OD until the engine is warm enuff to turn out the blue light...Something about warming up the cats....

The engine sounds normal, but if it bothers you, head to the dealer and get a service guy to locate the noise and explain it.

yeah.. its not a bother... i just didnt want it to be messed up already..
it had 50 miles on it when i got it. The guy told me that it got audited at the port.. by the product testers.. and they took it out and drove it.. and did a big time quality inspection on it.. it came with a sticker on it and everything. saying they did it...I have never heard of that before.. but he said he saw it one other time on a car like 3 years ago.

Translation? They beat the hell out of it and drove it like they stole it for 50 miles!

Anakin1973: Glad you got your new xA! Hope you will enjoy your's as much as I enjoy mine. As was mentioned before, the coolant light is normal. My 06 xA is also a bit noisier at idle than I expected when I have my foot on the brake and the car in drive like at a stop light. I had Fred Anderson service dept. check it out when I had my first oil change. They said all was normal and fine. Bet you will spend this weekend putting some miles on the clock. Enjoy and keep us informed on your xA adventure!
