Default ouch..my poor undercarriage

ran over a shredded tire on the freeway yesterday...had no choice but to go over it as my lil xA was boxed in on all sides--best i could do was center that chunk o rubber best i could hoping l'd clear it

missed my tires, but absolutely clobbered my front bumper & undercarriage w/ a mighty THUMP!

i checked when i got home, saw some rubber skid marks on the underside of my bumper which came off easy enough w/ some TurtleWax bug/tar remover...

just worried about the beating my undercarriage took...should i be overly concerned? checked my garage space after l pulled out this AM, & no leaks or drips...so that's some small comfort

I hit a bowling ball sized boulder on the highway one night going 80 mph. and another time, I hit a flap of tire as it was flying off an 18 wheeler. it hit my bumper and flopped over the hood and roof . left all sorts of skid marks on my paint :-(

I think you'll be ok. I assume most cars are built knowing that things are going to hit under there every once in a while.

the only thing that i would be remotely worried about is the exhaust getting thrown off one of it's hangers, or the fuel lines doing the same thing.

I would check the evap canister. It's the black box located just behind the rear suspension beam. There are several hoses and and some wiring that run to it. It's probably one of the more fragile components under the car.

However, if you have no CEL, then you are more than likely ok.

I had that happened to me twice on the interstate. First time, the shredded tire felt like it was two inches thick. I ran over it with my front right tire and it left a very nice rubber mark. Second, wasn't too extreme like the first.

I guess Silver Streak Mica Scion xA's are cursed to hit things on the road.

I was driving down a busy road the other day during a storm, and I had to go through a patch of water. I was doing about 25mph and it ripped the front passenger-side shroud or skid plate off. I was ____ed because I had to drive the rest of the way home with this piece of plastic scraping the road the whole way.

I love that bloody canister...

Mine just threw the code yesterday. It's now a TSB as of August 1st.
