Yep, statistically things happen in within 2 miles of home. That's very true. ALWAYS wear your seatbelt when the engine is on.
Insurance point of view: They actually want you to hit what you're trying to avoid when it comes to animals. Animal in the road- not your fault....eff'n up your car so you wouldn't hit said animal: completely YOUR fault

I have been wearing seatbelts any time I am on the road ever since I went airborne at an elevated RR crossing in 1961 in a VW bug. It is difficult to control pedals and steering wheel if one cannot keep his butt stuck to the seat. And strange roads can hold surprises.
