Default 06 xb dead like a piece of lumber

One month old standard transmission xb with 2500miles, died yesterday in an intersection. It was running great and suddenly the engine died. I tried to start it again and it was impossible. The battery was full, everything was running fine, but the engine. When I was trying to start it the engine was not turning, not making any sound at all. Not even that click noise when the key is turned to on position. Had to tow tow the thing to the Toyota service center, left it there in the parking lot per instructions. After one hour of waiting there they told me that they never heard of such a thing and that they've been able to drive the car without any problem from the parking lot inside the center.
Got a loaner and I'm waiting for them to call me. Very weird.

not trying to be funny by any means, however, did you try to start the car without putting it back in park?? This is assuming that you have an automatic. if you didn't have the car in park (or neutral), it wouldn't have started.

One month old standard transmission xb with 2500miles...
With the manual transmission, the clutch has to be firmly pressed all the way in or nothing will happen...

I've even seen folks with poorly anchored floor mats that kept the clutch from going in all the way when it bunched up behind the pedal...

I'd hope the tow truck driver would've also tried to start it before towing? Maybe not though.

dude, it really sounds like the clutch pedal switch wasn't engaged. If you are sure it was, then it needs the switch. I am a tech with Acura, and I know if I was looking at your vehicle, and I couldn't duplicate your problem, I just would replace the switch under warranty as an intermitent fault. But having the vehicle with full power and nothing happening at all when cranking was attempted, that would have to be it. Your crank position sensor, any relay, or anything else you would hear a click, or a crank but no start, or something. But I don't work on Toyotas and mine only has 400 miles on it, and no such problems (standard trans.), so I could be wrong.

The tow truck driver tried to start it with no success. Two girls tried too, wish they've stopped under different circumstances, and a guy in a huge truck, the guy was still in his PJ's.
I got a phone call today from the service people and returned the loaner.
The manager said it was the floor mat that was interfering with the clutch and the switch was not engaged.
I was expecting to pay for the loaner but they took care of it.
When I talked to the manager we agreed that if something similar will happen in the future, to call him directly and he will walk me trough some procedures and if it won't start again he will send a technician.
I hope it was the floor mat.
Thanks to all who answered.

Get yourself some genuine Scion mats since they attach to the carpet to keep from sliding forward under the pedals. Or some heavy all weather rubber ones that won't move much. If it really was the mat under the clutch pedal this time, it shouldn't happen again.

The Scion mats are to flimsy for what I need. The one I used are some heavy duty Michelin floor mats which are big, heavy and do not slide forward. I got them the same day I got the car, a month ago.
I intend to take the car in a 6 months trip in Europe and I really hope it is the mat.

One time when I was in High School our basketball team has to switch gyms at the last minute for a tourney game and so we all ran to our cars to race over there in time. I was in my father's 99 Sentra and it wouldn't start. I started wigging out and though, "How could the battery die NOW?" Sat back for a second and tried again... Those stupid floor mats. The three players in the car with me made fun of me the rest of the day. In other words...

Sounds like the mats to me!
