Default 3rd gear grinding or linkagegrinding? **STORY INSIDE...

ok so i was pull onto the highway exit, and got into 2nd gear. as soon as i went into 3rd gear i heard a grinding noise that i could feel through the shifter. i thought damn i dont think i shifted wrong. but as i got off the highway and went into 3rd from 2nd gear again it did the same thing and it has been doing that all day. but heres something to consider. if i go from 2nd to 4th, it doesnt grind. if i go from 2nd, move the shifter to 4th and then go into 3rd, it doesnt grind. if i downshift to 3rd, it doesnt grind. it only grinds when i go from 2nd to 3rd gear. if i short shift from 2nd to 3rd it sometimes grinds but not as abruptly if i shift my normal speed from 2nd to 3rd. my car is still under warranty and my drivetrain is completely stock so i will be taking it to the dealership soon. anyone got any idea whats going on? if you need to ask question i will answer

Take it to the dealership. It's the syncros. This is a common problem. I've had mine fixed twice now. The second time I got a new tranny. Also it doesn't matter if you have mods done to your car. When mine happened I had springs, intake, exhaust and they didn't say a thing. It doesn't void your warranty unless they can prove that the mod was the direct cause of the problem. For instance, blowing a motor due to an improperly tuned turbo.

well, deland toyotas reputation for customer saisfaction has gone WAYY down for me. this is how it all played out...

dropped the car off this mourning, must of been a bit early cause i guess the coffee didnt kick in the service attendents head yet and they really didnt understand what i meant when i said 3rd gear was grinding. so the dude just wrote down what i told him, 3rd gear wasnt meshing right comming out of 2nd, grinding noise. ok, 2 o'clock comes around and i get the call back, and from what midgethearsexb predicted the synchro's were stripped out. after the lady(coleen) told me what the problem was, she asked me if i race? WTF matters if i race or not?!? so i told her no, i mean i only took it to a dragstrip once. so she tells me, ok were going to replace your transmission this time... and THAT'S when i cut her off. ok first off ive had the car for 6 months, has 13,000+ miles on it, i purchased an extended warranty... i dont care if it breaks 4 or 5 more times your dealership is going to replace a broken part on my car until that warranty is out! if it keeps having problems, you are going to fix it. i felt she was puttin me in a corner and i told her that i really didnt appreciate the harraasment you gave me accusing me of racing my car and that i am going to file a complaint against you(the dealership i work at is in the same automotive group). then she tried to apologize for her upsetting me and this and that but whatever. they are replacing the transmission and i should have it back tuesday. ohh and they even gave me a courtesy car to use while the xA is out of service, a Dodge Stratus

so to sum it all up, synchros were blown, deland toyota can go ahead and try to be the big kid on the playground, but at the end of the day, i have a smile on my face
