Default Beefing up my 1nz-fe project started

Well, I finally got my used engine upstairs and mounted on the stand. Here's pics of my progress. One 12mm allen bolt put a stop to the project for today. But come tomorrow, i'll get passed it and onto the rods and pistons

and. here's the 12mm allen that put a halt to this project for the day.

absolutely going boost. goal is to get as much boost out of this engine safely. installing wiseco 9:1 pistons and crower rods with toga hp bearings. When I pull the valves and springs, i plan on upgrading them also. Doing a regrind on the cams isn't going to accomplish anything i think cause there ain't much meat on the lobes.

the tear down took about 3 hours. Today i'm going to remove the oil pan and hopefully pull the pistons and rods and then start cleaning some of the pieces and hardware.

Going to research head bolts/studs too.

Everything but the cylinder head is completely disassembled. I couldn't find the valve spring compressor tool locally on a sunday, so that will have to wait. i'm still waiting for my wiseco pistons which should be here by week's end.

as far as part numbers, i haven't used anything from toyota directly. the engine kit came from importperformanceparts.net and included the complete gasket set and the toga bearings. i got the kit from someone who decided not to go through with their build but his pistons were 10:1. so i had to order 9:1 pistons. Using crower rods which are now stocked and not custom order.

I got the motor with 5K from a wrecked echo. With shipping it ran me $525. Not a bad deal. I'm putting a perrin fuel rail, fidanza flywheel, kaaz lsd, and hopefully better valve springs (which will need to be custom).

I don't plan on doing the swap myself. Most likely have the shop do it and throw the lsd on then.

After the new motor gets broken, greddy turbo and intercooler will get installed and off to the dyno. until then, here's some more pics:

got the motor off ebay. user name mini-genie (pam's auto) out of st. cloud, mn. they have another one with 17k. also, there was one out of oregon that came off a manual tranny with clutch and flywheel.

here's more pics. I put the toga main bearings on and also a comparison of toyota vs. crower and wiseco. those are the 10:1 pistons that i'm selling if anyone's interested. $300+shipping.

Just a thought on the valve springs, try maybe using from another Toyota. I'm sure another engine will have a valve spring to suit your needs. Only valve spring swap I've done myself is 1zz-fe springs into a 5e-fe, maybe 1zz-fe springs will work on the 1nz?

actually, after talking to my roommate who's going to school to be a mechanic, taking these valve off are easy. it's putting them back together that's a pain. i was thinking eibach valve springs. not looking for stock. however, also thinking about custom cams - might be a good complement to the turbo. i might have a shop do the valves if i go that route. cheers.

these pistons are for sale. $300 + shipping. you could still get the ipp kit without the pistons and save a little $$$$. 10:1 and 75.5mm

I'm watching this one closely. I just got my spare motor Friday, it came with the automatic trans attached. I want to build up and hopefully twincharge but need a way to build up the auto trans to handle the increased power. Any ideas? I asked Paul from Dezod and he suggested a company called Level 10, they advertise kits to make a "bullet proof transmission" and also have torque convertors, but I haven't seen anything for our cars, only TOYOTA 4 RUNNER, CAMRY, CELICA, COROLLA, LAND CRUISER, MR2, PASEO, PICKUP/TACOMA/T100 RAV 4, SEQUOIA, SIENNA, SUPRA, TUNDRA. I'm going to be calling to see if they have something for us. I'll also be putting on an external trans cooler. When you do the swap, let me know what driveability is at the low end, I was considering 9.5 to 9, was worried about 8.5 not being driveable without spinning the turbo at every light, though a twincharge would help that issue.
