Default Buying USED intake?

Just wondering what everyone's take is on buying a used intake... I understand buying a used exhaust, header, since it all comes after the engine, but buying something that comes before the engine and having it be used kind of worries me. I really want an intake, but dont want to spend $200 for a new one. There are a few lurking around here and other sites for a good price, but Im nt sure if I should bite.

Give me your $.02...

You don't have a "Maybe" option, but I'll say "Yes" if you get a CARB sticker or number. That is, if your state requires it.
If you're state doesn't give a rats butt about the ozone; then go for it. But make sure to try and inspect it first, no punctures in the tube, if there's any plastic parts check their condition... same deal, cracks, brittleness...

As for the filter, that's no big deal unless you're crazy about it, but just do a quality check on it. You could always buy a replacement.

And also, check to see if they have the hardware to put it on and all that jazz.

But I'd go for a new one... check out Jegs for some good deals, but as with anything you buy for a car: "You get what you pay for."

For the xB the IS2100 is only $175ish.

I know importparts.com has it for $160+shipping, although you have to call them and say Alex sent you. =D

Problem is most of these sales are over the internet so you cant really see what you are buying until you have it sitting at your door.

Which is why I wouldn't buy a used one online =/ I know one guy that bought a K&N Typhoon for his xA and it looked pretty good, didn't have any hardware so he called K&N and they sent him everything for free...

Just a gamble I spose.

Billy here on SL (proshopxb) sold me his, their aint much that can happen to an intake, its tucked away, not like an exhaust which is bare or gets super hot. I was deffinitely satisfied, plus anything bad that can happen would have happened to them, not you. Man billy is just used and abused. haha j/k

I bought my is2100 used, it wasn't in the best condition but I only paid $100 so, you have to weigh the cost with the benefits...

I rather go with a used one because your going to save some money and like metal112524 said their aint much that can happen to an intake.

On my 03 Mazda Protege 5 I purchased a used Short Air and was happy with it. The comprimise of price and function worked for me. Never had a problem.

well I guess I lucked out. The person selling the AEM intake that I was going to purchase will be attending Scion Exposed so I will be able to see the intake before I buy.
