Default Which Clutch?

Okay my stock clutch is going bye-bye (no love loss here)... so I'm looking for a good replacement. I've seen people name manf. names but i want so reviews.

What I'm looking at now is a sub $350 clutch kit I'm currently checking Spec Stage 2 and Clutchmasters Stage 1... I've seen a few bad comments about Spec on other sites (cust. service, rebadging stock pressure plates, faulty parts). So those of you with new clutches what do you have and what do you think of them?

I'm just looking for long life/ semi-easy engagement/ strong pressure plate (i think this is the stock's flaw).

I'm wanting to know this also, I've been reading as much as I can find. I KNOW I want to upgrade clutch, because of other things I'm doing, but I also don't want my leg cramping, lol. I've only got 7000 miles on mine, and I notice it slipping already and I don't drive rough (much).

Don't have a manual, but I can pretty much quote chapter an verse of what Hotbox05 always says.

He is running a Spec stage 2+ as well as a steel braided line. He seems very happy with it. I think most of the time he recommends the Spec Stage 2 and definitely the steel braided line.

the steel braided line is a must with any upgraded pressure plate imo. makes a racing clutch feel like stock , at least foot pressure wise. the stage 2 + is pretty damned good. i love it. still very streetable while hooking like mad if you'd like to.

My clutch went out at 30000 mi..ended up bein a crack in the flywheel where it bolted up. They put too much pressure assembling it. May want to have it checked out..mine was warrantied and fixed for free.

I have the trd clutch and I like it but hate it! Had it installed from the factory when I ordered the car. Broke it in for 500 like I did the engine and it was great for about 2000 miles. Now it is just like a normal clutch, but then again it still is a street disk so it is nothing special. I am used to 4 and 6 puck solid hubs with pressures so high you have to go to the gym to prepare for the days driving.

I'll have them check it out, when the new clutch is going in... don't really want them just to put a new stock assembly in.

I'm definitely getting a stainless braided line, my clutch pedal just feels mushy and when the cars cold even as smoothly as i engage the clutch sometimes there is just a "thunk" like i just dropped the clutch, tis really strange -- only happens on first few shifts though.

Any one have previous experiences with certain clutch manf. -- not just in scions?

"I'll have them check it out, when the new clutch is going in... don't really want them just to put a new stock assembly in. "

Seems reasonable, but the Dealer probably won't warranty anything other than the stock or TRD clutch. If you're having it done at the Dealership, you'll be paying full rate, so you might as well have full warranty...

How stiff a pressure plate you're willing to put up with depends a lot on you, and on the kind of traffic you deal with. If there's lots of stop and go, you won't want a very heavy clutch, unless you like that left leg quivering sensation... Doesn't mean you can't go stronger than stock, just that there's a tradeoff in there somewhere.

Gizmovicki- get thee to the Dealership, and whine like a Princess! Unless you really beat up on a clutch, it shouldn't be showing any problems at 7K... If they'll upgrade to the TRD for the difference in parts prices, go for it.
