Default Clutch or Transmission problem?

Here lately I've been having a difficult time shifting in my 2005 Xb.
I've been freqently grinding gears and its not due to my shifting. It just seems like it takes a little more force to shift into the next gear.

Could it be the clutch fluid possibly? But in an '05?

Do I need to replace my clutch?

Possibly buy a short shifter?

Sounds like you just need to change your trans oil. I had to change my 2006's at about 12k miles because it had gotten a little more difficult to shift and I was occasionally missing a shift.

Make sure you use a synthetic GL-4 oil that's for manual transmissions (like Redline MT-90), not a GL-5 that's for differentials. Most of what you'll find at auto part stores is GL-5 or non synthetic GL-4 so it may take some searching or even ordering online.

I used Royal Purple 75W90 in my 05 and got it at Auto Zone. Works great - I highly recommend it.

i paid $15 dollars a bottle and you need two. You may be able to get it cheaper online but I wanted to do it that day.23 50 Jiffy lube probably wont have the good fluid that you want and I wouldn't trust them anywhere near my car anyway.

easy job, just drain and fill. No filter to replace. The plugs are in plain view too. :D

I hope that fixes your problem , i dont know how you drive but i beat the christ out of my 06 xa for the first 30k miles treating it like my old honda and it started doing the same thing as yours. Took it to toyota and had to have the trans rebuilt (under warranty of course) my 3rd and 4th gear syncros were shot and the 5th and reverse gear had welded themselves to the input shaft. Since then ive been more aware of my shifting and placed my gears with the clutch fully depressed instead of throwing it into gear. now i shift like that quickly and i havent had any problems since.

Yes there "is", lol. I work at AutoZone and we sell a tiny white bottle of Costal brand Clutch Fluid.
