Default Cold Air Induction System- worthwhile or worthless?

Some time ago, I received a card from Scion offering the Cold Air Induction System for $335 (labor not included). Does anyone have feedback on this accessory? Scion claims that the system is, in their words, "dyno-tuned to create more horsepower." True or false?

If anyone has this accessory already, what are the drawbacks? Is the car a lot noisier? Any impact on gas mileage (these $2.50 prices make me feel pain, though I know you folks in CA are REALLY paying big money at the pumps)?

I have an extended warranty, so I can't really go outside of Scion's line for parts. It might jeopardize coverage.

Thanks!

We have Injen and K&N intakes in stock right now, for much cheaper. They work great, we have the K&N on our tC here. Also, you can do the labor yourself, it's really easy.

check out the intakes at:

www.houseofscion.com/catalog

FYI, intake it usually the first or one of the first mods people do.

yeah you shouldnt pay more than 200 for a good cold air intake i wouuld say. even that is a little expensive.

and definitely the labor is nothing compared to doing suspension work or something...

AEM makes another intake for the xb that is about $140.00 online and another $40.00 for the bypass valve , makes 3 more hp acording to the AEM tech dept.

makes me wonder if their bypass valve actually does anything... i designed a cold air intake for v6 camrys that put the filter right down near the bumper... needless to say i made one for one of my friends and he drove in a huge rainstorm, drove through a puddle and hydrolocked his engine.

fortunately i did not have to feel that guilty because i told him over and over dont drive it in the rain before i gave it to him... but i still felt bad.

hydrolocking is no joke with a CAI. you have to be careful. thats why i wonder if the bypass valve actually bypasses water shooting up into the engine. all it is is a little extension with foam around part of the tubing.

um hydrolock only happens if u have no fender liner or drive through standing water.

yeah, he said it was a gigantic puddle... so im guessing the filter was more than 50% submerged in water. on top of that, i know for a fact he didnt have fender liner (neither did i) because we both had bodykits installed that would not accomodate them.
