Have you ever tested your idiot light on your gas gauge...
Just courious to see how far you can go after the light comes on for low fuel? I know it's all depends on how you drive your box - but how far did you go?
When my light first came on my brother drove the car about 10 miles, then I drove another 25 miles before I filled up. WHen I did fill u it was on E maybe a half mm under it, so Yeah i think its like 30-35 before you will be in the mentality of "im a dumb@$$"
The light is supposed to come on with 2-2.5 gallons left, so figure on having 1.5 safe, usable gallons left. If you get 30MPG that's 45 miles.
I figure that if the "UH-OH!" light comes on I had better find a station within 40-50 miles, depending on whether I'm doing city or highway miles.
Depends, of course, on how much of a chance you want to take.

I have put 10.2 gals. in mine without the light being on. So it seems to vary some from box to box as to when the light comes on. I have gone about 20 miles after the light came on once, Don't like doing that. I try to fillup when it gets to 1/4 tank.
forty usable miles sounds about right.
you should run out of usable gas by fifty. the engine will still run, but it will not move.
try not to make a habbit of running on a low tank. the fuel return system that prevents vapor lock (i think) will be less effective as the amount of fuel decreases. on a hot day, i suspect that you would end up getting vapor lock before you would run out of gas.
