HELP !! New intake, now car wont start
Plain and simple. I added a short ram intake and now the car wont idle. It cranks up sputters and dies. Any ideas? Its a 2005 manual box if that matters. Sensors are hooked back up.
check all of the clamps and amke sure they are tight I had the same prob with my cold air.....come to find out it had a loose pipe and was takin in too much air.....if not revert back to stock and see ifshe runs
i put the oem one back in and it works perfect. I just dont understand. the maf was down tight and the filter is a good 8-12" away from it. Im going to have to agree that it seems like its either getting too much air or not enough. It starts up perfect and idles down to a sputter and backfires if you dont turn the key off fast enough.
Have you checked to make sure that the maf is pointing the right direction? I would also check the rubber hose connoctor are sealed correctly and check the welds to see if they could be leaking too, just a thought
everything is sealed, it is pointing in the same direction as the oem setup, the welds look good. I emailed the seller to see if they would be willing to send me another pipe to try but we'll see. It just doesnt make sense.
I siliconed up around the maf and no luck with that either.

What's the size of the piping? Reason I ask is because if the size is bigger than stock it will throw off the reading of the MAF n the car will sputter, idle bad, n bog. Those generic ebay intakes r not designed like an intake from a reputable company. A good intake u'll notice is either the same size diameter as stock or there will be a section of the piping that's stock sized where the MAF goes n the rest of the intake will be of a bigger size, again this is done to insure the MAF gets a proper reading since its tuned for that size.
Another thing, is the vent hose before or after the MAF? Good intakes like TRD/AEM or an Injen has it after the MAF so the oil n other crud doesn't screw up the MAF. Most likely its either one of these things that's causeing ur car to reject the intake. U don't have to spend a rediculous amount of money on an intake like the TRD one but there is a point of being too cheap. Spend the extra few dollars on something from a reputable company n u won't have a problem like this.

I would say that it is the design of the "off brand".
The inside of my K&N Typhoon has a half moon section welded inside just before the MAF. all of the others I have seen have the smaller diamiter pipe just before or the half moon inset welded in.
Your probably just getting too much air ( running lean) so it won't stay running.
