I see allot of people now painting there Valve/engine cover here. I really want to do this but I am not sure if I should get it done or do it myself. Anyone have any experience with this??

I did order the Toyota color code paint can of my car thought taking it off and giving it a few coats would do the trick. Maybe I should put on a primer 1st.

 

Putting exterior paint on a valve cover will make it bubble up and burn off. The valve cover heats up very quickly and stays very hot. Are you talking about the valve cover itself, of the plastic cover over the valve cover that says VVT-i??

You shoudl be good with a thin coat of primer, 2-3 coats of enamel paint and 2 coats of clear.

Anyone know?

all i did to paint mine is used the krylon for plastics. did a couple coats and then cleared it. been on for almost 2 years and still looks good. no bubbles or anything.

WOWEEE nice. My engine should be very similar but I got aluminium dressings for the tubes and wires + red OBX Radiator Tubes and Killer Glass. I am so frustrated my paint is still in transit. 2 to 3 weeks to delivery

 

careful with cheap clear coats.. they yellow

 

I got the primer and gloss but am waiting for the OEM 3Q3 can now to match my car. I got them from http://www.automotivetouchup.com/

Note: What clear coat do you recommend. I will get it. Can I get them at Pep Boys??

 

Make sure it's an acrylic base b/c if it's lacquer based, it will begin to look warped (melt a bit) with high heat even after it's set.

 

Your talking about the clear coat right? no problem.

 

Yeah, lacquer is oil based and never 100% dries like acrylic.
