Default injen is2100 carb question/california legalities???

i have a 2007 xb and was wondering about this intake for my box. but i did notice in the review on page 1 that the CARB EO was only approved for 2004. Does this mean I wouldn't pass smog checks if i put this on my car? how does this affect me? i live in Southern California

#1 you don't have a 2007 xB
the injen will not make you car fail a smog inspection, unless they lift the hood and look for a mod intake. the 06 xB has a carbon filter built into the air cleaner box. states like california will not alow you to by pass this filter. you will not be alowed (legaly) top change you intake.
you could allways keep the stock intake and swap it back befor the inspection.
i have the 06 xB with the injen SR and i have had no problems, but then again i live in MO.

okay, i know the 07 xbs are just re-released 06xbs, but for this whole 2004 CARB EO purpose i was just stating my car year to find out how my car stacked up to intakes and their legalities. thanks for your info swartzautomann.

i really don't wanna swap the stock air box back in, after reading about how taking it out is a _____, so I guess if i get the Injen i'll just cross my fingers and hope that the intake gets CARB approval before my 6year period for not having to get smog checks is over.

I also read about a YDR intake being identical to the InjenIS2100, i wonder if this one is approved at all

more homework to do.

thanks

nothing is legal for the 06 xB because of the carbon filter.
you are not alowed to bypas the carbon filter, and no aftermaker intake has a carbon filter.
it doesn't mater what brand you use its all going to be illegal.
ive heard alot of guys from cali talk about this 100 times

not for the 06
the carbon filter is the problem.
no aftermarket intake has one.

after 6 years?
im not sure what you are talking about with the 6 years thing.

but like i said, as of right now, no aftermarket compainy makes en intake that has a corbon filter in it.

the lackof carbon filter will not make you car produse smog under any normal coditions, but because toyota put in on from the factory and CA sees it as part of emitions control you "by law" are not alowed to by pass it.

as soon as someone comes out with en intake that has a carbon filter built in, your golden.
but untill then you will eather have to live with it, swop back to you stock one befor each insection, or move to a different state.
you know....... the last one doesn't seem so bad.
everything is cheeper out this way. ive been tring to talk me brother into leaving florida for years not. hes scared.
i left FL back in 99 and my life has been 10x better.

the 6 year thing is just the time period for new cars before they have to have a smog check as stated by the DMV of california.

of course, thanks again Swartzautoman for the somewhat sad answer, but now i have a new question that hopefully some californians could answer?

could you get tickets for having an aftermarket intake in an xB in California? what kind of penalties are there?

yes you can get a ticket.
the cop can acualy make you lift your hood.
they carry a book on what is and is not legal.

the CA people will have to tell you what the pealties are

If it is not carb for your specific year, then it is illegal.

The ticket will be up to the discretion of the officer. worse case scenario, they will send you to the ref.
