Basically trd will not sell a 49 state part when such a huge amount of their market is california . if it cant/wont pass cali smog they normally dont waste time and money making it for other states , 90% of the time thyere all or nothing regarding parts.
For it to be legal they have to do lots of tests and procedures then once theyre certain it worth their time they submit it to the state of california to the bar and then it gets tested for smog if it passes all it normally then gets the toyota usa a-ok

if the turbo or supercharger is not a factory backed product or option then it needs to have a carb number to be legal. ie. jackson racing makes a carb certified kits

yea if it comes from factory you can bet its safe and legal. Nebraska was pretty damn stupid a couple years back. They tried bassing a law making them illegal...

yea, like that would go over dumbass Unicam. thank god there was some talks with SEMA that resolved the issue quickly and without worry

not that i could afford to throw a turbo on the box anyway though

A friend running the same Power Enterprise supercharger on their xB as me had a run in with the police. The car was considered race ready. They had to strip the supercharger off and go get it inspected to prove it wasn't race ready.

the supercharger/turbo has to be registared with the state of Califoirnia or else just having a number will not help. Every smog place has a book with all the aftermarket cali numbers, so if you have a turbo on and it doesn't match whats in the book; than you will not even get on the machine.

The TRD turbo will not be brought to the US. If it were, it would have been here already. That and the the fact that the ECUs are different in Japan and here in the US. If you want forced induction, I'd go w/ the PE unit. I know of too many people snapping connecting rods. Plus, fuel delivery, and once again, the US ECU.

It's not an issue of will it pass the Emissions test, it has to pass the VISUAL Inspection.
