Manual XB Chattering or Slipping?
I've driven 6 cars in the past 10 yrs with manual transmissions, though with the xb I have noticed some tranny/clutch weirdness with it.
In first it feels as if its slipping or chattering, cant quite describe it and once I shift in gear (sometimes) it feels like a slight clunk, like when a limited slip locks into place, then the car goes.
Now i've read a few posts where some have had chattering the first 1k miles and then it went away
Is this normal and would redline mt90, trd quick shifter or trd clutch help.
Wow there is no pedal feel and I feel like i'm gonna break the tranny, it feels so fragile
Thanks everyone :D

I've had an xB for about 18 months, and it came from the factory with the worst manual shifter feel of anything I've driven in 40 years. 2-3 shifts are perfect gear grinders. My friend with a bad neck quit riding in my car because it painfully jerked her neck at evrey shift.
I put in a quick shift kit and it made a very small difference that I attribute mainly to the solid bushings under the shifter.
I recently bought solid brass bushings to replace the rubber ones installed in the transmission shifting arms under the car, near the transmission. These actually did make a tremendous difference. Now I can do 2-3 shifts well about 95% of the time. My friend will ride in my car now. It's really a shame that Toyota doesn't care about such things.
Good Luck.

I always had manual transmissions for decades, and I would rate the xB's as not as good as the BMWs I had, about the same as the Toyotas and Rabbits I had, and better than the Mazda truck I have.
I love driving the xB because the clutch and gearshift are so light and smooth. The clutch had a momentary chatter a couple of times under 1000 miles, but not in the 9000 miles since then. The gearshifter and transmission have been smooth and I have not felt the need for a shifter kit.
However, I drive the way I feel the car wants to be driven, not slipping the clutch or shifting fast. I just enjoy it the way it is. I did put in Redline MT90 at 1000 miles.

FWD cars just don't have the kind of gearshift "feel" as RWD vehicles, where the stick acts directly on the tranny parts. I had a little bit of gear grinding getting used to my xB, and the more positive feel of the TRD shifter and a little bit of diligence on my part ended that...
The clutch chattered occasionally in the first 500 miles or so, but is now smooth and chatter-free at 2500 miles... with the light pedal pressure being really nice in city traffic... it has decent "feel", it's just more subtle because it's relatively light...

So this should go away after about 500 miles?
Does everyones transmission make a loud whine in reverse, much more so than on an auto?
I say this because my wife and I both may 06 xb's one auto and one manual

I had an auto on my xB so I can't comment on the clutch/shifter but I will say that the wine is normal. I've had a few japaneese cars and they all have had the reverse whine including my tC. Nothing to be worried about.
I had the same problem. I just switched the lube to full synthetic. It used to be really clunky after not being driven and reverse had the same problem. Since the switch to syn its alot better- not perfect-but better.
does anyone drive their xb alot on interstates? and hate the high reving at about 80mph i think scion should done somthing different with the manual tranny either change the gearing in it or changed it to a 6spd manual. i have to drive 77miles round trip everyday and hate the high reving i feel like im gonna blow up the engine. anyone know any fixes? different pulleys or anything?
