mega squirt ?
hum..... well if you can keep the stock computer in there just to run the tc and stuff then it should be fine but if you replace everything then i think its a no go with all that stuff...... I dont know too much about stand alone as for piggy back thats easy.... why not run emanagement ultimate?

here is the ultimate they have it for xb's and from what i hear it works good..... now whether thats true or not who knows!

ok....megasquirt
Its really a nice tool for those who have access to widebands, dyno's, experienced tuner shops and etc.
The awsome thing about megasquirt is that it can be used as either a standalone or a piggy-back.
Use it as a piggyback to control fuel and i think you will be happy. It will require resetting your comp evry few days or runing with a CEL, but i say go for it. its friggin cheap enough.

im going to be purchasing a mega squirt soon. As bfurches says: you need access to widebands, dynos and an experienced tuner. My mechanic used to be head the head of Toyota Service for about 5 years and then started to do his own thing recently. Hes the one that tells me buy this and buy that, "I can install it and it will help to tune the car." After buying all the gauges necessary and a wideband all i need is the ECU, pistons and rods, after this im going to push for 12 lbs.
Anyways back to topic. My mechanic says that the mega squirt is really useful because its REALLY cheap, but its a slight pain in the a$$ to install, no harness means you have to connect every single wire one by one until you have your own harness. He knows how to do it so ill leave it up to him. For $400.00 you cant be that for a stand alone, i mean the new AEM EMS costs about $2,000!!!!
Thats just WAY WAY WAY too much!!

One of my buddies is buying the mega squirt and running it on his xa. He has been in contact with the company making sure everything will work good with the car.
Also Mega Squirt is Stand alone
Mini Squirt is the piggy back
He will post up once the car is done and show the results

...and once again, it still can be used as a piggy-back (i.e. to only control injector duty/ and MAF signals)
...yes it is primarily used as a standalone on vehocles whith much more simplistic systems (i.e. older DSM's), but for anyone wanting to retain factory conviences such as trac/ vsc, it may make more sense to use it to only control desired parameters.

i bought the MS II with the v3 board as an unassembled kit from http://sparkandfuel.com/
i had been assembling it over the winter, but i got stuck in the middle at one of the computer tests because my usb serial adapter is being a pain. i have too many things going on through july to work on it again.
i'm going to start with EFI then add ignition followed by vvt-i.
i bought an oscilloscope to check out the engine signals, especially the crank position signal.
the toyota electrical manual is also helpful for the ECU wiring.
i aim to keep the stock sensors. MS can use MAF or the MAP sensor that it comes with. it can also use both simultaneously because each is more effective under opposing conditions. there are many unknowns, but they can only be answered by doing.
