Default new here with concern

Hello everyone,

Im new here, I own a 2005 tC very happy with it. We just bought my wife a 2006 xB
we love the little box but from time to time it doesnt start the first time you turn the key.
it is auto and no options or aftermarket parts installed. It was brand new (1mile on it) when we got it, it has 500 miles now. I did a search on this but couldnt find anything.
I havent called the dealer yet, thought I should post here first since you guys/gals know more about scions then the dealers do.
Is this something I should worry about?

thanks for your help

I think since it's brand new I'd be contacting the dealer asap and have them fix whatever it is. I have an '06 xB and it starts every time I turn the key without fail.

i have not heard of too many people having this issue...

the ones i do know of, it was the pressure regulator in the fuel pump canister. it will leak pressure out of the fuel system, so when you go to start the car it needs a second or two to build up the pressure.

some other cars will start the fuel pump when you turn the key to the on position, ours will only pump when the motor it turning (safety issue).

let the dealer figure out what the problem is...

it is noting to worry about. it is actually a little bit safer for the motor. you get oil cirulating before it starts running.
it is an annoyance, but not harmfull.

When I first got mine, I would occasionaly give up on the ignition a fraction early, and it wouldn't turn over...But that was definately me using too light a touch when turning car on. I'm guessing your problem is more than that??

What kind of car did you used to have? The Toyotas I have owned (92 4x4 pickup and xB) tend to require a longer time holding the key to get the engine to start. Since owning my Toyota 4x4, I have had mostely Hondas. My Hondas were quick starters and when I switched to the xB, I kept not holding the key in the start position long enough. Now that I have gotten used to holding it for just a fraction of a second longer it starts right up. BTW, mines an auto as well. New engines also are tighter and require a longer crank from the starter. Good luck with it if it is more than that.

I had the same thing happening for a short time, as xB_NUTT noted, I have to crank just a sec or two longer than I had to in my past car. no problems (although from time to time my remote start doesn't start on the first try) I haven't worried too much about it.

I took the car to the dealer last friday and they checked it, then
I spoke with the supervisor and he told me that nothing was wrong with the car but if it keeps doing it more ofthen or if it gets to the point where I could simulate the problem then I should take it back and they will check it.

So well just drive it untill something goes wrong
