Oil filter adapter
Does anybody know if there is a major difference between the Greedy oil filter block adapter and the AC Autotechnic oil filter block adapter? The info I have found on the greedy one says it will work with an oil pressure sensor, but the AC one says it is for the oil temperature sensor.
The reason I am asking is because I currently have the AC oil filter block adapter and I am experiencing erratic readings. Once the engine warms up, the pressure bounces between 60 and 100 PSI when going at a constant freeway speed. I have already tried replacing the gauge and the sender. Same exact thing happens. I am beginning to think I have a grounding problem with the adapter and sender. I bought the blue anodized one. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
I do not think it is your gauge, there has been talk that the oil pressure on our XB's will go past 100 psi. Today on this site there was a thread about this. I think you might have to get a gauge that is 150 psi. Check out the thread.

I use the greddy adaptor. It has a space for both temp and pressure sending units. I've had no problems. My gauge readings do rise and fall with acceleration/deceleration, but rarely will they ever rise above 75psi. If your supplying a constant flow of gas to the engine, your pressure shouldn't be bouncing erratically though.
I'm going to have to say that the Greddy is probably going to be better in terms of quality. Last thing you want is for the adapter to take a ____ on you and ____ oil all over everything...
If you're the kind of person that uses a Fram filter or gets your oil changed at Wal*Mart, go with the AC whateverthehell...

frams are actually the best cheaply priced filtration available
.. then toyota then k&n
meaning k%n is the best but costs about 10.00
toyota is good at about 4-7 dollars
and fram is the best 4.00 and under filter.
wix is good if u have a euro car ala bmw and vw

NEVER buy Fram. They used to be good, but have recently gone steeply downhill. After a small amount of time, they don't filter smaller particles. The Toyotas are amazing, and about the same price. Mobil1 is great, but too expensive. The Toyota outperforms too much out there and can be had for about $3 if you look.
I use the TRD filters. Sure they cost more, and when combined with syn. Mobil1, an oil change costs about $30, but WTF do I care? 5,000 miles per oilchange at $30 a pop... big deal. When I pull the oil cap at 50,000 miles, it's still gonna look like new. It sure wouldn't with dino oil.
well when you put 5k every month or two it gets expensive. and where on earth can u get a toyota filter for 3.00? maybe if you buy 5 or more. and never did i say fram was the one to buy. but i'd buy it over any other 'cheap" filter.
Trained Monkey, I have the ac unit and have experienced no problems like you mentioned except the oil pressure will exceed 100psi when the engine is first started and is cold. Mine is the blue also, and I also wondered about the grounding factor. I checked it with a multimeter after install and there is no continuity problem that I can find. HOWEVER, if you are using teflon tape on your threads that could cause a problem. On the electric oil pressure gauges if the unit is not grounded, the gauge will peg off scall to the high end. When it is grounded it will read zero. Therefore, you could be experiencing a ground problem IF the gauge is not at fault.
Have you tried hooking up a mechanical gauge temporarily just to double check the pressure? I did that after I installed my first gauge and the mechanical gauge confirmed my pressure was right at 100psi when cold and about 80 to 90 once warmed up. That is when I ordered a VDO gauge that goes to 150 psi. Since installing it my gauge readings are close to what I was getting before but about 10 psi less at the high end. I will note that the VDO gauge responds MUCH slower than the other gauge and doesn't respond quickly to throttle changes.
Asto the Greedy vs AC adapter, I have heard that the Greedy is threaded with 1/8 x 28 thread metric threads while I know the AC is the SAE 1/8 x 27 thread. The AC I received has 4 holes and 4 plugs. If you position the adapter a certain way you can in theory use all four ports but I have no idea why you would need more than two!!

Oil, filters, and parachutes are not good things to try to save money on, plain and simple.
