I installed the Perrin pulley I bought from another SL member today:

Pulley:

The car looked pretty good in the shop, so I took a pic and posted it for all of your viewing pleasure

The pully hasn't made a dramatic difference, but I feel like there's a little more power while accelerating off the line. I don't know if these cars were designed for japanese mechanics, and not big ol' texans or what, but it took like 3 hrs and a lot of squeezing and cramming around and under the engine to get it installed. I'm glad it's done!

Has anyone done a full tech on this yet? Looks like a pain in the ___ to do with the lack of room to get to the adjustment bolts to loosen them for the belt removal...

the alternator is easy to loosen....(unless you have the power adder....arghhh.)
the you can do the screw driver under the belt trick....
look for a previous thread on the pulley (by munch) he did a basic write up....its not that hard...
the car should be up so you can get under with tools...

Why do you even need timing marks on the pulley. New Toyotas don't even have adjustable timing (computer does it itself with VVTi) and to set up the timing for a timing chain there are yellow marks on the chain and dots on the sprockets which you line up, no need for setting any marks like on a car with timing belt.

ok just got it installed...
yes loosening the belts was a true pain in the ___.

As was trying to get the pulley itself off.

Re tightening the belts was a pain too.. and i'm hoping that I put them back correctly and that they are tight enough.

To get the pulley off, we finally just stuck a metal rod and stopped the fly wheel (we had no air tools).

First a couple of misconceptions about the pulley. on the stock one.. there are no rubber grommets or rubber layer. except for the spokes and weight... the lightened pulley is physically indentical to the stock one.
So unless the weight is a huge factor there should be no harmonic balancing issues..

I also asked a mechanic about the timing marker... and he couldn't see why a timing marker was necessary..

as for performance.. the engine does feel smoother at the low end... and does seem to accelerate a little faster...

however on the highway i didn't feel any difference. I actually had some problems getting the car above 70...

then again I was up against heavy winds and traffic...
so that may be why... i'll see again when i drive the car today

Only able to get to 70? My xB hits 115 without problem. Completely stock it did about 110. All I have is the DC sports header and Injen Short Ram intake. I'd really like to get a verdict on the Perrin Pulley... anyone have access to a dyno to do a before and after on this product?

my car would probably hit that eventually... but its pretty hard to go that fast in Queens...

i don't know why yet.. like i said it might've been high winds... but i was having trouble getting up to speed without stomping on the pedal... (i could get it if i took off o/d and then reengaged it at the end..)...

invariably though... i would run out of room (traffic) so i couldn't really tell how the car felt at 70+

i noticwd a huge difference in the shifting aspect as opposed to power... My car was more inclined to catch up w/ my shifts instead of the needle going down in rpm's and then increasing as I applied the throttle. It did not seem to be a power mod, as much as it was a shifting mod. don't know if that made sense, but I love it . It made a difference than the stock driving experience so that made me happy

hmm I had the opportunity to really open up the car today...
yeah... it was nice... even on an auto... the accell was much smoother overall...

I didn't feel engine hestitation like I used to when I stomped the pedal.

as for the 70mph thing... well its kinda funny. I actually feel like I'm going faster than I was before. What I mean is, for some reason, I'll be travelling along what appears to be "really fast" and I'll look at my speed and I'll only be going around 67mph...
Whereas pre-pulley, I'll be travelling along 'not that fast" and I'll look down and it'll be like 75 mph...
placebo effect? I really don't think so. But the feeling doesn't make sense to me at all.

i think overall, you'll "feel" this mod if you drive a lot (it definately changed the way the car drives). But its not one of those mods that so readily apparent, that if you switched it our without telling anyone, they'd notice it.
