Default popped my clutch from first to second

i accidentally popped my clutch from first going into second. doesn't sound bad but it was. from first i was going about 25 ready to go into second. while pushing the clutch i felt something creepy on my foot which turns out to be the carpet . but yea just when i was going into second i dropped the clutch and fell back into first gear really hard. it felt like i got into an accident cuz my box just stopped in its track.

so i'm just wondering if i might damage the gears or cv joints or nothing from the sudden stop. hopefully the clutch gave and absorbed some of the force.

um . you shifted from first to second or second to first?

it's mroe wear than needed but if you did first to second it won'd do too much harm. least not only doing it once.

Whoa go easy on the B. If something doesn't fell right you messed something up.
You can damage the clutch, synchro by doing that.

it was first to second, just about to shift into second. it fell baq into first and just jerk the hell out of the box and me. like you know when you step on the clutch and about to shift. i never got a chance to shift just dropped the clutch baq into first at about 25.

Sounds like you didn't take it out of the first all the way and it popped out of gear. I've had it happen around a corner before where I was too hasty with a 2 -1 downshift and didn't put it all the way into 1st.

Not a big deal. I don't think you damaged anything, but yea you know to be more careful in the future

Work on your shifting, otherwise you could have some expensive repair bills soon.

come on guys please pay attention to my topic. i didn't purpously do it or i didn't know how to shift. it was that i accidentally got spooked when i felt something funny on my foot. of course human reaction is going to be pulling my foot of the clutch really fast. so the topic is i'm paranoid that i might of damage something. and wondering if that little inccident could lead to other problems that is not showing now but might come up later.

My apologies for assuming you couldn't shift. First few times of doing that shouldn't hurt your car though. I did the same thing once when my Dad taught me to drive a stick. I was actually going for 3rd and hit 1st. Anyway, that particular 1989 Toyota truck is still being used today for light duty around the house. It has 450,000 miles on it.... and counting.

Only things ever replaced on it have been the tires, fuel filter, air filter and the rear end, once ( only because I put a 6 inch lift on the truck and the super-swampers are so big )

I think the way you described your situation is what's causing the varied replies. If I understand your posts correctly, what happened was you were accelerating in 1st gear, you pushed in the clutch to shift but you felt something awkward under your foot that caused a knee-jerk reaction and you released the clutch without actually shifting gears.

If all that happened in an average time frame of a shift, you essentially did the same thing as just letting off the gas at high RPM except the re-engaging of the clutch made it more jerky. It probably isn't the best thing for your car but it isn't likely that it did any damage.

apology excepted.

yesssssss. exactly. you took the word out of my mouth. thats what happened. it happened like last week and i'm still paranoid about it. now i should be a little more relieved. thanks guys. so i don't really have anything to worry about the gears than.

how long should a clutch last? since i met my girlfriend, i been doing pretty much of the driving. now she is starting to drive a gain and always rides my clutch. few times i smell burning. my stage one clutch is a month old so i just want to know how long will the clutch last if my girlfriend keeps riding it for at least like a month more until she get better?

Ok first off, I mean no disrespect to women. Women hold the 1/4 mile world record in some brackets of drag racing. I'm willing to bet that your girlfriend isn't one of them though.

I don't even let my wife drive my car . She won't be the one spending all weekend sitting under it when the clutch wears out . She certainly won't be the one paying for new parts. My point is, most women do NOT know how to drive a stick. Just like most men can't color-coordinate their clothes

Yea but I love her anyway right?

Maybe your stage 1 is just breaking in though.

It's impossible to estimate how long a clutch will last when someone is riding it. There are so many variables like is she just riding it longer when starting, does she just ride it when up-shifting to cruising speed, or does she keep her foot on the clutch pedal all the time. Does she putter around slowly or does she like to go fast? The longer she keeps her foot on the clutch and the harder she drives the shorter the life of your clutch.

It's time to start training her now to keep that foot off the clutch pedal unless she's actually about to use it. In extreme cases the use of a dog training colar on a leg may be necessary.

she rides it mean kine when going up hill, but pretty much from a stopping point. she's been a racer chick before i met her and she used to smoke guys on the road with her cousin standard turboed sentra with stage two clutch. so i can't say she can't drive stick. but yea we been together for amost three year and i do most of the driving. out of the three year. she pobably drove less than twenty times. and now we have a baby and i want to sit in the back, so i make her drive. so of course she never drove when she was pregnant.

seems like i don't really have to worry than. the clutch should be fine right? she's getting better, i think i didn't install the stage one in myself. i'm wondering if i get a stage two when i get my turbo installed. how hard is it to intall the clutch?

and yea she did buy the rims for me. so i guess the box is some what her.

i started to drive when i was 12 back in my home land of thailand using my uncle company van and it was standard. i have driven dump trucks, excavators, back-hoes, dozers and tractors all baq in thailand until i was 15 because my other uncle has a construction company. Now back int the states. since i got my license at 16. i've been driving pretty much everyday ever since. now i'm 20 years old.

hopefully that answers your question about why i want to sit in the back. i have lack of enthusiasum for driving now days unless it's racing.
