I need to get a new intake, i have the aem cai and its beat, i'm now trying to decide if i should get a new sri or just get a new filter for my cai.

Here's the question........if i do go with a new filter what brand should i get? I see all the bells and whistles on the net but should i just go to the local advance auto and get a basic k&n cone?

 

all cone filters are the same for the most part... ain't much technological advances in paper filtration...

$20 cone filters & $100 cone filters look exactly the same to me...

now there's quality differences in OEM stock drop in filters I'll have to say.... Some paper thin, some that you wanna wipe your butt with.... =P

 

Is the intake itself messed up? Or is it just the filter? I'd just pop a K&N on there if it's just the filter.

 

When you say it's "beat" what happened? The intake filters are washable....

 

i'm exactly in the same situation as you. got the OEM AEM CAI that is ridiculously long and the filter has probably 40K on it without washing.
want to replace the intake with a SRI or just replace the filter?

 

well at first i wanted a new filter just because thats how i am, but when i got to advance auto and looked under the hood to check the filter i noticed that one of the brackets holding the intake piping to the body had broken at the weld. Now i would assume if the weld is gonna break it'll do just that.......break the weld, no no somehow it managed to take the whole piece of metal it was welded to with it, so now i have a 1" by 2.5" hole in my intake piping and my fujita sri just left cali today

 

I have the AEM CAI, and I took off the part from the bypass valve down, and made a pseudo-short ram out of it. I didn't noticeably gain or lose power, but it made the car quieter and throatier sounding.

Tirerack sells the AEM filter cleaning detergent for $8. Beats spending $200+ on an intake.
