Transaxle vs Transmission Fluid
alright, i may sound like a noob here.... but hey, still learning!
anyway, i just bought a used 2005 Scion XA, manual transmission. i want to replace the transmission fluid.
is that the same as the transaxle fluid or is that different?

Hello.
Use MT-90, a REDLINE product. We take 2 quarts exactly and a drain & fill is too easy to spent $50 for.
Many how-to threads, search for TRANS FLUID.
Every 30,000 I drain and fill my 5 speed.
Remove LF splash guard. Open fill plug. Unscrew it just enough to allow a little air to pass through. Now open the drain plug. The fluid will flush out with great force IF the fill plug is open all the way.
But you, armed with this great tip will have little to clean up.
If you hand tighten the fill plug by hand, it will slow the flow of air into the trans. Remove the drain plug and fluid will drop out and not gush all over.
I recall unscrewing the fill plug slightly to allow more air into the trans as the pressure normalized.
Lube the plug threads to help with the next drain & fill.
Replace drain plug. Get funnel with a 2 foot hose. I used a funnel with clear tubing to reach down to the fill hole. (Fish tank hose) Add 2 qts of MT-90.
Test level with finger tip in fill hole. Replace fill plug.
Test drive to feel smoother shifts.
Do you have an CABIN AIR FILTER in your filter tray behind the glove box?
My box has 142k and has had 3 trans fluid changes.
