Hey guys, I took a picture of under hood "thingie" that's ripped with some insulation sticking out of it. I bought the car used and that's how it came and I was thinking can u buy this new and replace the old ? is it expensive ? I tried searching the forum, but kinda hard not knowing how it's called.
Wanna get my engine bay clean, got SRI on the way, wanna get new battery and engine cover but all will go for nothing with this ugly thing ripped apart.

damn, that's pretty expensive, I was thinking around $60 not $160 I would pay $around $200 if it were carbon fiber replacement, that would b worth it.

I run my car without the insulator It works fine to me. I was just lazy to put it back on after I took off my cf hood.

well holy ____, if its 160, throw another 50 on there and pick up a complete carbon fiber hood.

Where can you get a carbon fiber hood for $210? Or are you talking about a used one? I don't think I've seen one under $400 for the xA.

You could replace it with an OE hoodliner or get an aftermarket one from a company like Dynamat. http://www.dynamat.com/products_auto...hoodliner.html
I found it while doing research on making my ride quieter and will probably be something I'll eventually do. GL let us know how it turns out!

That insulator is there for a reason. It's to protect your hood's paint from being destroyed by the engine heat. Yeah you could run without it, but it would come back to bite you down the road.

I doubt thats the case, because the fender rails/apron/frame rails would also have a cover. It's more likely there to actually keep the hood from getting too hot to touch, and maybe to keep heat in the engine bay, dont forget engines need to be in a certain range of tempratures to run properly; if it gets too cold performance/fuel economy actualy drops.

I took it out, looks much better, when I sound deaden the car I'll put damplifier on the hood aswell.

You might be right, but remember that heat rises, so the hood would get more heat than any other part. I know that engine heat can kill paint, it happened on the hood of my 5.0 Mustang. Right over a hole in the insulator. But yeah ToyoXrsPl, it's your call, I could be wrong.

the car needs a new paintjob in a year or two anyway, not risking anything, if it goes bad at least I'll know not to do it on a new paintjob
