Default xB Automatic trans fluid refill question

Over the last few days I've taken the lower auto trans oil pan off to replace the ATF fluid temp sensor. I've let the fluid drain for 3 days. A total of 8 quarts came out.
I've finished the job and refilled the trans with 4 quarts to test drive. With the engine warm I'm not getting an fluid on the stick.

Do I need to refill with 8 quarts total to match what came out or just 1 more qt at a time and check the stick?

Thanks.

Run the transmission through the gears with your foot on the brake a few times and then check the fluid...I'm guessing you'll need to add some.

I don't know how you managed to get 8 qts. total as according to the service manual an ATF dry fill calls for 7.2 US quart.
