sorry to hear your turbo blew out again. What yo say about the oil seems to make sense to me. The oil would accumulate in the turbo and when it would spool, all that extra pressure, causes the seals to blow out.
I just hope i dont have these problems with my Turbo Toyota kit.

The smoking (oil) in your exhaust and using too much oil could be a slew of things. But, a lot of times you get smoke (burning oil) because the air intake (filter in our case) is clogged. This also could mean it's simply not getting enough air. Also, I noticed in all of your pictures you left one of the bungs open on the turbo-to-exhaust piece. Maybe you just hadn’t put your wideband in yet, but ANY leaks in any of the components of the system, including air, can cause problems. Exhaust side gives you more oil consumption, intake side gives you smoke.

Also, did you use a turbo timer for shutdown on your car? Startup isn't really a big deal in our case based on design. You still should let your car idle without revving for 30-60 seconds so there is good movement of WARM oil in the turbo. But, the main thing is getting all of that hot oil back out when you stop. Sludge on any component of the turbo could cause those issues. Check my ‘too much in a header’ post to read my thoughts about how to solve this if you like. (Which I’ll post after this post.)

The last thing I can mention is did the kit come with an oil restrictor? We received a ball bearing turbo which traditionally doesn’t need as much oil as a journal bearing. At full boost on our turbo we need around 40 or 45 psi of oil to the inlet of the housing. At max. operating of our engine it’s probably pushing close to double that. Overloading a ball bearing turbo will reduce performance and potentially cause the problems you’ve mentioned.
The open hole you saw, was plugged, and plugged tightly (since two fell out). I never had a chance to get the money together to get a Wideband o2. And I had oil going both directions, intake and exhaust.

The python 990 system I have installed has a Turbo Timer on it, It was set for a minute. I would use that, or let the car sit for a minute before I turned it off. Min dyou I only had this kit installed since the begining of summer and when I last pulled off the turbo, there was a good bit of caking on the exhaust side of the turbine.

MY system came with an oil regulator which I left set where I had gotten it. From talking to Kenny, he said the new ones used banjo bolts. Also my turbo was a MHI 14b journal bearing turbo.

So there do appear to be differences in our systems. I'll have to go home and see if there are any banjo fittings in the kit.

I hate to hear there were so many issues (and so many of those that caused even more.) It makes it difficult to narrow down the problem when new ones keep popping up because of it.

What's the turbo you were running? Also, did you get your exhaust and 02 sensor?

Yup, I have a piece of exhaust that takes up the length of the bed in my S10. New front 02 and new front and rear gaskets.

All to the tune of $900ish.

So, so far this kit has cost me, around $3000. $350 of it to put on, $200 for parts and oil trying to fix it and $900ish to take it off.

The Turbo was a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries 14b, purchased from non other then Turbochargers.com

OK.. so you got the MHI as well. I knew in the initial prototype they were using a larger turbo. I'm back to my normal "I'm so busy at work I can't breathe" mode. But, I'll be working on everything again soon and will check out in more detail everything that's going on mine.

That's aweful that you had to fork out 900 bucks for the exhaust. I've saved everything I've taken off all the way to the airbox. Juuuuuust in case. ;)

I'll still try to speculate on some things on my thread. Feel free to help out. Thanks and g/l.

Just to show you what the BOV blowing off oil all over my front bumper looked like.

Last shot of the engine bay set up for JDlong

Just for kicks.

Even this t-shirt took forever to get.

So far tonight I removed : Oil feed line, valve cover, intercooler and related piping, oil pump and some vaccumn lines. Tomorrow I get to get underneath and tackle removing the entire exhaust system, removing the e-manage and replacing the injectors.

Thanks man!

LMAO at the shirt comment...

So, that leaves me with two questions for you. Were you just running cat and no muffler? And do you have a pic of the emanage harnesses wired up? That part still makes me a tad bit uneasy. Thanks again.

Cat with no RESIGNATOR. TRD Axle back.

I do have a pic of the emanage wired up, I will take a pic, and somewhere around I have my cross reference chart.

Is yours an 04/05 or an 06 ?

Mine's an 05. That would be amazing. I'd have to bake you a cake and fly it out to MD to thank you. Or, I could just say 'thanks.' Yeah.. I'll probably just do that. lol...

After much pain in the ___ problems, she purrs like a cat. It's so nice to have a car that doesn't blow smoke everywhere.
