12 volt hot wires

I have a 7 inch LCD and FM modulator. Would it be possible and/or ideal to splice wires fro both to the cigarette lighter connection? I'm kinda new to rewiring stuff through a car. I haven't tried it myself since I get my XB tommorrow(just don't wanna waste any time) :D
