I was wondering if anyone knows what the three wires on the alternator wire harness plug are for. I think if I know what they are for i can add a GM style CS-144 alternator. rated at 140 amps. The plug harness can just be bought separate. and I can just re solder the wires together. It will bolt in just like our alternators.
Also I would need to use our alternator pulley. which is an easy impact gun off and on to the new alternator. If we can figure this out then here would be an easy alternative to adding a system. I have found many alternators around $140 or so. and even some brand new ones on eBay for really cheap.

There is 3 wires

1 x red/black
1 x yellow
1 x brown

If i remember correctly.

any one have the scion repair manual? it should have the wiring diagram in there.

 

If nobody can find the wiring diagram I personally would take a Multi-Meter to it and find out what wire does what.

Hey brad how are ya doing..thanks for the reply. I am just curious on how your progress on your charging system research is going. I think i got it covered up to the wiring of the new harness. i am going to call a couple places to see if they know what the wiring is and how to wire it to the cs-144 alternator. I have done research and it seems the cs-144 is a great OE alternator and would be a huge upgrade for the scion xb. also i know that the DJ xb had a 250AMP alternantor.

Chris, does the CS-144 bolt right in, or do you need to fab some mounts. I have the torque specs for the pulley. Is the shaft diameter the same?

I was going to get an OEM alternator rewound once I have use of my hand again.

Are you going to you know where on saturday?

 

I am going to make some calls to see if the alternator bolts right up.
I might even order a couple different ones to see and try myself if they bolt up.

OK here is my update i found the wiring diagram but i need a bit of help here guys still.

red/black=12volt ignition switch(key)
yellow = illumination light
ok here is where i need some help it says blue goes to ECU and PTC amplifier. it gets split these to locations. I do have more technical papers to read then ill see if i can figure this out.

any help would be greatly apreciated

also i think im getting close. im sitting here at home and google is my best friend right now. i think the blue is a pulse signal to the ecu coming out of the voltage regulator. now i am researching if the cs-144 has that on there regulators as well. i feel it im getting close...... lol you could even hit me up on yahoo messenger or even aim brad im just sitting here lol

wow, i wish I knew more about this stuff... anyhow I'm interested in how it turns out, thx to all those other guys like you too. It's so great that everything can be shared so easily.

 

THANKS tomas i do have that already. but good to put it up and see if any one knows . from what i found out so far that greeen/blue wire is a pulse generated signal to the ecu and the ptc amplifier.

the wire diagram of the cs-144 terminals this is what i found out abpout terminal "P"
P-Terminal: The Pulse/Phase terminal can provide a 12V square wave to determine alternator speed, used by some Electronic Control Modules or vehicle computers. Connects to the stator. Some ICU’s monitor this signal and adjust engine parameters accordingly.

so it looks like the new alternator can be hooked up as follows according to the cs-144 wire diagram.

black/red= battery post
yellow= "L" terminal . ignition switch
red/black= 'F" terminal charge lamp on dash
green/blue= "P" terminal square wave signal to ecu and ptc.


i will try to ask someone if that will work for sure.

Did you ever post any updates? I still cannot find the pinout for the OEM harness in my 2004 xB.

I saw on one of these posts that:
