Default Alternators

Is there any way to beef up the stock alternator? Or are there any good aftermarket that are being used?

Contact AAMP of America (Stinger) and have one made to the specs you want... if you are going to do it, do it right.

What would you do to the warranty? I mean, replacing something that's actually on the serpentine belt. I definitely don't want to void that!!! As a semi-compromise, I'm running a Stinger SP1000 and Phoenix Gold Titanium 15 Farad capacitor. My stereo shop said that would redice strain on my alternator + battery. I don't use the A/C much. Just my stereo. i think the Stinger alts. have a 1(?) year warranty if I'm not mistaken. Or I guess Toyota can say that my stereo caused my alternator to fail and not fix it. Any advice?

use www.google.com and search for Iraggi Alternators. He builds custom alternators for car audio competitors around the country. I bought a 220 amp alternator for my Toyota Tacoma DoubleCab and its is of top notch quality. You can also find him on www.termpro.com

Caps still put strain on your alternator.

I just got a 200 amp alternater installed in my Xb for my SQ system. Got it installed at Speaker Works in the city of Orange, California. Look them up on the internet and use "USD" for key word. These guys are unbelievable!

What are things to watch out for or consider when putting on a higher then stock amp alternator. Is it possible to put too much amps or is the alternator regulating 13.8 volts (that seems to be what our xB's are puttin out) and the unused amps are kinda like having torque at an specific rpm that is not being used to generate hp (as in you got it if you need it). Also, can turning a higher amp generator in an alternator be a strain on the engine? One last question. I know that it varies from each manufacturer, but approximately what is the cost of having an aftermarket alternator made/ordered for the xB (say around 200 amps)?

iirc you can never have too much (many :? ) amps output. the more the better, it just makes it easier for you to run more stuff (greater electrical load just make sure you don't strain the rest of the wiring) voltage is what does the damage, too much and you fry stuff, not enough and it drains.

"unused amps" don't do anything, but when you add to the amp load it does add to the physical load on the engine. the alt creates more resistance with the greater amp load and therefore the engine has to work harder to spin the alt

this info is coming from the catacombs of my memory, so if i AM wrong, feel free to correct, but i "think" this info is pretty accurate.
