Default Automatic Shifter question -Do the gear indicators light up?

Well, are they supposed to? I know I can use the indicators on the dash, next to the guage cluster, but do the P, D, R, N etc letters glow when your lights are on? I ask because mine dont - i just want to make sure that this is expected and not something messed up on my box ;]

thanks!

Sounds like an idea for a mod...

I am adding cup holder (all 3) LEDs soon and will see if the "lettering" by the gear shift is transparent enough that light will flow through 'em... if this is the case then yeah, it's definitely a nice mod... ;]

I have a few EXTREMELY BRIGHT WHITE LEDs as well as some really nice UV/purple looking LEDs that I can use. The purple ones are the ones that i'm going to put into the cup holders.... since i'll be "down there" doing the cupholder mod, it wouldn't hurt to throw a couple of extra LEDs down there ;]

I'd love to know how it goes.

Well, got in the box tonight after the GTG at the Lake City Dick's, and looked at the shifter. Lo! and behold: it does light up. All the gear indicators except R are green (same as the dash), and R is yellow (but it's amber on the dash). I've got a 2006.5 - is that the difference?

Er, yeah, my 2005 lights up in green and yellow, with an orange pointer next to 'em to show where you are...

That's where I look when shifting into a gear, day or night - I use the ones on the dash only when I'm in motion...
