I notice you are BBY, Burnaby I assume. Which Cdn Tire did you go to so I can avoid it for my federal inspection?

Thanks
I wouldn't worry about the Fed Inspection too much. Mine took 3 minutes. They check the gauges to make sure they work, looked at the mileage and made sure the lights came on when it started up.

I couldn't believe I waited 2 weeks for a 3 minute inspection.

Default Headlights only

My understanding is that the headlights should go on. Someone else posted the link to the actual regulations. My interpretation is that the regular headlights can be at 100% or 60% or the high beams can be at 60% but if you want to read them for yourself that would be better. So here is the link.

I am 75% done with this project. Only my low beams come on with the ignition ON and no other lights or buzzer are affected. The low beams are at 100% at this time, but i am waiting for the resistor i ordered to lower the output. The cost of parts so far is $5 for the universal relay, some spare wire (about 1ft) and $7 for the 0.5 Ohm 50 Watt resistor. I may add a switch to disable the DRL when the resistor gets here and i finish thhe installation.

Default Daytime Running Lights experience - Canadian conversion

It is a real bummer that it is so complicated to do this conversion for my Scion xB. When I did it for my '96 Miata, the Canadian and US cars have the same wiring harness so, the DRL's are accomplished by simply plugging in a relatively inexpensive part that is reachable near the steering column under the dash. No removal of anything. The DRL's use both filaments of the 1157's in the parking/turn lights so the headlights aren't involved and they turn off when the handbrake is applied, etc. Of course, that car has the barn door hidden headlights, so it's a good thing they don't use the headlights.
Does anyone know if there's a conversion that utilizes the parking/turn lights instead of the headlights for the Scion? I wonder if it would be bright enough.

I have just done a parking light conversion on my wife's week-old xD. Because it's only the parking lights, I'm sure it won't pass Canadian standards, but it does provide forward light, which meets my needs.

About a dollar's worth of parts (four diodes) does the trick. The parking lamps come on with the ignition. Normal headlight/taillight/signal operation is not changed from the original.

I was able to mount the diodes and minor wiring changes inside the relay/fuse box inside the engine compartment on the driver side. I cannibalized a spare connector I had, so I didn't even have to cut or splice any of the original wiring.

If there's interest, I'll draw up the mod and take photos.
