Default Dimmer switch for Cold Cathodes?

Is it possible hook cold cathodes up to a dimmer "switch" (like the interior light dimmer) that has on/off detents? I thought it would be a cool effect to turn them on/off slowly with a dimmer switch as opposed to a flip switch.

If it is possible, what am I looking for in my dimmer switch? Pics of what people have done would be nice. Thanks!

To my knowledge, its not possible to dim them. Much like a florescent light, they use a ballast/transformer and need the voltage to be within specs to even turn on. on or off is their only states
