Default Direct wire question. (Radar)

Okay, so I'm going to add the Direct Wire for my Escort 5800 tomorrow.
My only question is: can I tap the power wire for the headunit to power it? That's 12v, right?

Is there a better option?

I want to mount the mute button beneath the HU in the half din slot.

Originally, I was just going to pigtail fuse it to the block in the cabin, but I just assume use the included t-tap and save 7 bucks on a pigtail fuse.

What about using the remote wire on the HU? That way I can turn it off with the HU?

Or is that not constant power?

Anyone?

Cool.

Anyone know if the remote turn on wire gets constant 12V when the HU is on?

The remote wire has to be constant, othewise the amps that paople run would keep going on and off.
I would wire it to the remote on the HU, that is a good idea i never would have thought of that.

Yea, I was just thinking if I did it to the remote wire, in the event that I get pulled over or whatever, I'd turn the HU off and the radar would shut off too.

I just didn't know if the 12v was constant or just a trickle.

Well... I got lazy at the last minute and just wanted it done, so I tapped the cigarette lighter.

Not too shabby.
