Door Lock Problem - Key opens on Driver side and locks on Passenger side..
I have a 2006 Scion xB with a locking issue:
This is a pain as when I get out of the car I have to hit the lock button which creates the possible issue of locking my keys in the car.
Any feedback on what the issue is and solutions?

@armygreenxb Would that prevent the key in the lock from turning to the left and only allow it to turn to the right to unlock the door on the drivers side? This is also happening on both sides which would make me think if it were only one door it would only be one side.

Issue is over time, grease in actuator mechanism dries up and it becomes difficult to turn key and move gear mechanism inside. So even though the motor still works and you can still use remote & push-buttons to lock/unlock door, you can't use key itself. Replacing actuator will restore proper operation of key. You need to replace both of them; one is locked up in one direction and other in opposite direction.
Yeah as mentioned, unless you buy OEM unit from authorised Toyota dealer, it's hit-n-miss online. Pick vendor with high ratings and verify warranty-period with them. I've had some that lasted less than year and I had to replace... again!
What I like to do is partially disassemble them and add silicone grease to mechanisms. This keeps them working much longer.
Also get remote! Extremely convenient and saves wear-n-tear on your keys and lock mechanism.
Yes. When you turn key, it turns a gear & arm on actuator that clicks a switch. That switch tells door-lock controller which way you turned key and it activates actuator motor to lock or unlock. Basically it's like power-steering for door-locks and actuator completes process for you.

You're most welcome! I've had good luck with these remotes. Better than eBay ones I got that was too soft and would activate panic button on back when I squeezed front buttons.

I ordered batteries for the remotes that I have. Hopefully the issue is solved.
