[And I think you can only change color on the iPod radio.[/quote]

Yeah, I have the '06 iPod HU and it rotates through all 10 colors on one option. It's pretty cool.

First off a quick reply to the last post: It's not just the '06 head units (maybe). I got my '05 in August of '05 before the '06 models came out so it's possible my head unit is '06 but until I find out it's an '05 to me and my head unit does have the "C" button (color button).

Next I want to say that I managed to get the customized welcome screen feature to work though not by using the instructions on the forum. All of the posts I saw seemed to miss a step or maybe it's different with models. Who knows? Anyways, here are the instructions I used (from the head unit's manual) to change the welcome screen.

1.) Make sure the car is off as if you had just inserted the key and NOT turned it.
2.) Press and hold the "Audio Control" button and turn the key to ACC. At this point you will see the horizontal line on the display flash. You have 15 seconds to perform the next step or the head unit will time out and you will need to start again.
3.) After you see the horizontal line flashing, press and hold the "Mute" button and turn the key back to the Off position.
4.) If the previous steps were successfully completed then you should see the letter "A" on the screen. You now have 60 seconds (1 minute) to use the + and - buttons on your head unit to change the character on the screen. The characters you can choose from are A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and symbols (!, ", #, etc.). Also, the screen has a maximum of 12 characters.
5.) Once you're at the character you want to select press the "Audio Control" button to select that character. To delete a character you can press the "Mute" button.
6.) When you're finished entering the phrase you want to use simply press and hold down the "Audio Control" button.

I plan on scanning the pages from the manual in and posting it on my site some time but for now if you have any questions then feel free to message me.

4) Trun key to off

What other 5 min mods woudl be easy for the average noob to do...

1) replace old wiper blades

2) change the grill "scion icon" to a "bB"

3) reset the maint light

and

4) install silverstar light bulbs...

OK, I know I'll prolly get flamed for bringing this post back, but here goes....

I was browsing through the latest Scion Magazine (v.7) the other night and happened upon the audio section. And there, in the lower left hand corner of page 28 (I think!) were instructions for easter eggs. At first, I didn't bother to read them as I have an 06.5 with the iPod upgrade radio, and previous instructions just didn't work with my radio. So, after finishing the magazine a few minutes later, I went back to the audio section and re-read the easter egg instructions. To my surprise, they were different than previous instructions!! So, I immediately went out to my box and tried the new instructions for the Japanese text, and THEY WORKED!! So, just an FYI, it is possible to put Scion in Japanese characters on an 06 or 06.5 HU. HTH.

For those of you wanting/needing proof of the Japanese screen for the 05 here’s a pic I took in my car:

As well as a scan I did from the Winter/Spring 05 booklet my dad got at the LA auto-show:

When you get into the "Secret Mode" you'll see a line across the display blinking.

Hope this helps!

I was trying to get "Scion" in Japanese on my 2007 tC HU(with iPod connectivity) and was using the old sequence(I spent like 30 plus minutes with another tC owner then gave up). I found this post and got it my second try using the newer sequence of "mute" and "3" simultaneous.

I got mine to say one of the built in messages but I don't have the radio manual, any chance anyone with the model stereo in this pic was successful in changing the custom greeting?

I want to have it say something custom but these instructions in this thread are for a different model entirely.

Can anyone help me do this on an 09 xD? I don't have an 'A' or 'M' button. I tried using what I thought was closest 'Audio Cont' and 'Mute', then tried the 'Mode' button on steering wheel, still nothing.
