I currently have an alpine 9830 head unit, but I have always had my eye on the eclipse avn-5435. A co worker of mine at circuit city, just got the an xb and he got the eclipse head unit with the new car. I really like it, and now im fixated on getting one. The only local dealer around me says the head unit plust install will be $2500. Now I can install the head unit myself, but the thing is, when you install it yourself, you only get a 1 year warranty, but when the dealer installs it, you get 3 years... I can get the head unit off ebay for like $1500, what should I do??

I have seen a number of Eclipse authorized dealers offer that unit for $1700. Install should take no more than an hour for an authorized dealer, and therefore another $100 at most. Some dealers will send in the warranty for you anyhow, even if you install it yourself. Mine did. Just search around for it. Find another authorized dealer who lives near relatives out of state, see if they give you a better price. Tell them you got quoted for $1700, and tell them you expect them to match it.

 

I am in PA, kind of right outside philadelphia. I definately want to get it as cheap as possible.. I can easily install it, but i would like to get the extended warranty. Maybe I should just kind of take a risk and get it off ebay..
