Enclosure help!!
This is probably going to seem like a really stupid question, but I really need an answer! I bought 2 12" Diamond Audio CM3-12D4 subs. I want the perfect box, to get the best sound. I don't know if thats vented, ported, or sealed? I listen to alot of rap/hip-hop, rock, and alternative.
If someone can understand this: http://www.diamondaudio.com/products..._spec_rev1.pdf I'd really appreciate knowing what I should be looking for.
H?xW?xD? How much cubic feet should each sub have? I'm looking for a box on ebay, but it's kind of hard when you don't know the specs you're looking for.
I appreciate any and all responses!!

Well for a sealed enclosure it say's you would need .6-1.2 cubic foot of airspace and for vented or ported you need 1.5 cubic feet for airspace. If you went with the sealed box i would go with a 1 cubic foot box (1ft X1ftX1ft for each sub) about right in the middle of what the company recomends for airspace. The sealed box will give you cleaner tighter bass, no sloppy bass with this box. Withh the vented or ported which are the same type of box one use's a round port the other use's a slotted port sometimes. You would need box for each sub that was 1.5ftX1.5ftX1.5ft. A ported box puts more bass out, but somtimes a sloppier stlye bass, but might be more what you are looking for with the music you listen to. This box also allows you to use a less efficeint amp on the subs(doesnt take as much power to move the subs) as a sealed box would. I always recomened the sealed box but you do what you would like it's your ride. They also make caulators (porta calc is what ive heard them called) that you can put in some of the numbers, and get a perfectly tuned box for the sub, because the manufacturer doesent always give the best air space recomindation. The numbers i used above ^^^ where Not done with the calc, just some years of experience. Good luck to you.
Hey Gina, it's me!!
If you want a sealed enclosure, get one that has 1cu.ft per sub internal volume. For a ported enclosure, you'll have to have someone design one specifically for those subs via the theile/small parameters in that .pdf document you posted.
If you're just wanting a box from ebay, get a sealed because like I said, the ported box will have to be tuned and built to your subwoofers exact specs....

I biult this box for my Xb but had to take it out. It put out so much sound that my rear quarter panels were flexing about 3/4" in and out. If you biuld this one make sure you use Pro quality sound blocker or your box will sound like a beer can. This is the one I biult insted.

In my experience I find I really enjoy a sealed enclosure. That's not to say that I haven't heard ported enclosures that sound good, because I have, but they have been few and far between. In terms of sound quality, ease of design, and space savings sealed is the way to go. I would recommend going towards the higher end of the recommended sizes for your enclosure. I say this because a larger enclosure will yield a lower overall "Q" value, which often sounds quite good and in addition if the enclosure is too large it's easier to add small blocks of wood to the box to occupy airspace than it is to make a small box bigger. I agree with much of what has been said here. And I love the Diamond Audio stuff. I have a pair of CM310s in an MTX Thunderform enclosure in my Dakota. People literally can not believe the sound I get out of such a small enclosure with those subwoofers. They are probably one of the very best shallow mount subwoofers available on the market today.
I would definitely go with a sealed enclosure for those subs. And do your best to get an enclosure that has separate airspace for each subwoofer. And just as ProshopxB recommended I would look for an enclosure with about 1 cu.ft. of air space per woofer. Also make sure you get an enclosure that provides a minimum of about 7" for mounting depth. That way you are sure to exceed the accepted .5" of clearance between the back of the sub and the box.
You may want to contact Quarter Wave Designs and see what they would charge to build you a custom enclosure for those subwoofers. If all you want is a simple "box" for the rear it would probably be very reasonable.
