Default FM Modulator

Before anyone begins to let me know the detrements and shortcomings of using a FM Modulator just let me say I already know. When I get around to it ($$$) I will install an aftermarket hu. I had it and was messing around one day and decided to put it in. It serves my purpose for now.

I have a FM Modulator that I had gotten with my Sirius tuner. I did not use it because the hu I used had Aux. inputs so the satellite was connected that way. I installed the FM Modulator in my xB and connected to the factory hu. Now, my problem is that when the modulator is on it intereferes with normal FM reception on the rest of the frequencies. I installed a on/off switch (toggle) so I could manually turn it on and off. When it is off I have no problems. When it is on it works great, I get good sound from the dvd player it is connected to and really no engine noise or anything. Why is interferring with the radio's other reception when it is on and how do I fix it? This happened in another car when I installed it and connected it to the factory h/u before I removed it so it is not unique to the xB.

Thats just how they work.

When the FM mod is on, it will always mess with FM reception. Think of it as someone yelling in a crowd of people talking casually. If you want to hear anyone other than the yelling guy, you have to remove him (turn fm mod off).

And they also a breeze to install and allow for easy uninstall/reinstall, so it's a trade off.

A hard installed FM Modulator works like a switch when you power it ON it blocks the signal coming in your ant. lead and feeds what ever audio on its input into your tuner. When it is off it allows your ant. signal to pass thru it into your radio the only time the FM mod shaulod be on is when you are listening to the dvd/video
