Default Glass Break Alarms?

I was looking for an alarm for my new XB. Glass break being the major item. My neighborhood is bad about smash and grabs, but they rarely ever steal a whole car.

Anyone know a good alarm for this, it seems like glass break is a feature on high end stuff, that I don't really need or want. Really looking for a cheaper solution.

You may want to consider a proximity sensor instead of or in addition to a glass sensor. Windows can be broken with "low impact" devices that do not set off the glass sensor (they are very easy for car thieves to get). The proximity alarm will go off anytime someone reaches in to a designated area of the car (like around your stereo). The one I got was an add on to my alarm. So you may be able to get an entry level alarm and then add on this specific feature with out busting the budget.

Does the Scion alarm have this feature? I was going to get one in a couple weeks, but have been hearing better things about aftermarket ones.... really just want a deterrent from anything major happening.

I had a glass break sensor with my Lynx 2000 alarm, but it would cause my alarm to just randomly go off, even in my garage with no loud noises, cars driving by, etc., so i disconnected it - I wouldn't recommend one...a proximity sensor is probaby a better way to spend your money

The Scion Security System does have a glass breakage sensor. It's located next to the armed indicator light.

Default Glass Breakage Sensor

I had one in my Viper 550ESP in my old Merc. When somebody tried to break the window, the alarm went off, along with the three extra sirens I put in, Needless to say, nothing got stolen. My new Viper 790 has a glass sensor in it as well, but only one backup siren. My windows are also tinted now so I may not have to sweep tiny little pieces of glass around in case somebody tries to steal anything.

I got the factory alarm  . I tried tapping on the window with the key to set off the glass break feature like it says in the manual but it did not work.

Here is my experience in alarms with glass break and proximity.

The DEI proximity sensor sucks! If you really want a good proximity sensor, go with a digital one like Alpine. The analog proximity sensors are too inconsistant and false regularly or not even go off.

As for glass break sensor, I've had it in my last two cars and they work wonderful (DEI)! The only time ive ever had a false alarm was when the windows were down. DEI sensors are set up so it triggers if it hears random frequecies in certain intervals. Meaning a tree brand or leaves wont trigger it. If you adjust it properly you will never have a problem (at least I never did). Anytime my alarm went off, i knew there was a problem.
