Default Help...getting back into car audio.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey, I'm getting back into the car audio stuff again like I was when I was in high school. Then I had an '87 Nissan Sentra with a 10in. Audiobahn in a bandpass with some cheap amp. It worked for me then. Now I have an '05 Scion Xb and want to get something a little bit better, but not too much. I'm looking to spend 400-600 for amp, sub, and box. I've been looking at the Kicker 10in. L5 that's in a box, that dual Audiobahn 10in in bandpass, or a 10in or 12in Alpine Type R. I usually just listen to hardcore, metal, reggae, and some acoustical music. I really don't want to do a custom box. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

if you are looking for good deals from a reputable online shop check out www.onlinecarstereo.com

I picked up a MRV-f545 alpine amp for 350 shipped. Normal retail is about 600 bucks. They have some good deals there.

As far as enclosures, your best bet is with audioformz, a little high priced for me but from what I have seen looks like top notch stuff.

BTW stay away from places like best buy or circuit city, go to the local stereo shop most of the time they have people who work there who know what they are doing. just my 2 cents though.

Good luck

the thing with the audioformz is that its open on the bottom of the trunk. You see, I bodyboard, so my wetsuit and board go back there, so with a regular box with a single sub it will all fit without the gear getting damaged. So that onlinecarstereo.com place is reputable? What other places online are like cheap and reputable? sounddomain.com?

my brother bought about $1000 worth of Phoenix gold amps and a couple of other things from them. Shipping is free for ups ground so it does take a little time. I ordered my amp and some dynomat around the 9th of nov, I got it on the 15th. Not bad for ground shipping and going across the country. As far as other audio places I am not sure. Check out the Ice section there should be more info there.

I like onlinecarstereo, they have a simple interface, clean design, customer service has been right on, prices are pretty decent, and hey can't beat free shipping with low prices.

THink about making a custom box or having one made. It might be the best way to go for you. I skae and I keep a bunch of gear in the back. A few extra decks wheels and trucks. Also a bunch of cleaning supplies. It's a tight fit cause I have on enclosure for my daily work drive, 2 JL10w1v2, and my enclosure that's a gift for short excursions to the local spots, 2 JL 12w0.

Two things, first figure out a budget, don't go over that budget. Two, Be patient and take your time. Sometimes waiting can have advantages. I bought some alpine component which retail at $220 for about $100 at the local stereo shop. It's mainly cause alpine is getting ready to redo the entire type s,r,and x lines. . .or atleast that is what the guy at the shop said.

Once again good luck.

get a box built that goes under the passenger seat. your amp could go under the driver seat. Then you can use an 8" sub. I recommend a JL 8W0 and an Alpine MRPM350.

i have a 10" alpine type r in a ported box with a JL Audio 500/1 and it's one of the best setups ive had as far as space saving and Loud goes. It is an incredible speaker, if your looking for a speaker to play a wide range of musci, the type r is the way to go
