It depends on what you want to do. There were a bunch of threads about projectors versus reflectors and conversion kits versus retrofits, but it always ends up in a stupid flame war.

If you do it right, you'll get good results. If you do it wrong, you'll get an uneven beam pattern, glare, and possibly a ticket. This is something you'll want to research a lot before you do it, so don't just slap on a conversion kit without thinking about it.

Although most people don't care or can't afford it, a retrofit is the way to go. Purchase HID projectors or HID reflectors, HID ballasts and a pair of D2S/D2R bulbs. It might cost you an extra $200-400 dollars to do it (depending on the quality of parts that you want), but the results are worth it.

Also keep in mind that not all HID systems are equal. Obviously, the HID systems on older BMW 7-series are not going to hold a flame to the light output of newer cars. If you want the best beam pattern possible, I'd stick to lights that come off of a newer car like the Honda S2000, Acura TSX, Acura TL, BMW M3, Infinity FX... they'll easily trump any of the existing HID conversion kits -- no question about it.

Now if I do the HID's in the future is there a point in ordering the future xB in Aug-Sept with fog lights or should I save my $350 for the HID's.
Thanks uncom

don't order it from the factory with fogs. you can buy them and install them yourself and save 150 or so.

Hey guys,

I am the new HID sponsor here, and I got some great prices on REAL HID kits for all of you who are dying to get their hands on a set... and for a real cheap price too!

Check out my siggy for more pics and prices. $250 for all single beam applications (basically H4 and 9006 for all the Scions out there), $260 for D2S kits (perfect for any retrofit project), and $380 for bi-xenons! Nuff said, PM if you got any questions.

Peace out,
George
