i was just wondering how everyone put aftermarket speakers in their doors of an xb. i am putting 6-1/2 in the doors but hole in door is too big and adapters are too small pics please if anyone has some thanks for the help

 

im having the same problem with deciding what speaker to go with since its a weird mounting position.

i think im just gonna cut out the existing speaker from the stock bracketry and just use that to mount a new speaker. that seems to be better since trying to mount it without the bracket, the magnet will hit the window when its all the way down.

 

ya i bought the speaker adapters and my speakers don't fit so u might have to cut an adapter out of wood

 

Im pretty sure a Honda adapter works... one was used for my tC, and have heard it works for the xB also.

 

Get a half sheet of MDF (thickness will depend on what you need for the speakers you're using) and cut your own spacer rings out, It's much better than using plastic spacers as far as accoustics are concerned and you can be sure to get a good fit. You can use a jigsaw, a router (they even make circle cutting jigs for these), or even a rotozip type of tool.

 

Thats what I did... it was pretty easy

Haven't changed out the back speakers yet, but I heard they are rivetted in, so might make it a little harder. Never had to take out rivets before

I mounted CDTs in the front by gutting the factory speaker and using the outer basket ring as a mount. Works great and fits perfect.

 

My 6.5" speakres are 2.75" depth.. A 1" MDF speaker ring is perfect. I sealed and painted it since its in the door, its prone to weather damage and if anyone knows MDF, its like a sponge. I then mounted it and sealed around it in silicone.

 

Just installed Infinity 6.5's. You need to have the Scosche SAT6 mount. I bought from Cardomain.com for $8. There is another thread that gives step-by-step and it's right on - search and check it out. Pretty easy to do - without the mounts, it would have been very hard.

 

I cut a template out of 3/4" plywood. The thickness gave the the right amount of clearance for the window.

I wouldn't suggest using MDF. It swells and becomes soft when it gets wet. Water does get in the doors. Plywood is still subject to water swelling but it's not nearly as bad. A little paint or other sealer and it's good to go.

 

this is an example of 3/4 mdf you only need a small piece to do both sides may 12"x24".

 

When you use the stock speaker for a mount the plastic is waterproof and it has a little hood on the top to keep water off the speakers.
