Idea for interior lighting
I am thinking of getting a light kit with some LEDs for the cupholders and maybe some underdash lights, and maybe under the seats or something too. Nothing too groundbreaking in that, but I was thinking I would like to put it on a three way switch like how the dome light works, so that I could manually select "on, door, off" and have it be independent of the operation of the real dome light.
The only way I could think of to set this up is if I put two switches in parallel. The first would go on a wire running on the positive side between the fuse and the lights and would be the "on/off switch". The second would splice into the lead on the switch on the door trigger to the lights. When the door switch is closed (that is, the door is open) it would provide a secondary circuit routing power to the lights. I would probably have to put a fuse and maybe a diode on that circuit as well. Anyhow, I could switch this wire as well (the second switch, not counting the door switch as a 3rd switch) so that I would have the option of "off".
So in this setup, having the 1st switch to "on" would light the interior lights all the time, having the 1st switch off but the 2nd switch on would light the interior lights only when the door is open, and having them both off would leave the lights off all time.
Anyone know an easier way to do this?
