Yes, you use a toggle switch. I recommend the Cold Cathode kit available from:

why the cold cathode kit, what's wrong with an led kit?

 

Cathodes are going to be brighter, but LEDs have truer color tone on certain colors (red comes to mind)

On the regular LED lights, is there usually a seperate switch to turn on or is it connected to the headlight switch? I was told headlight switch but don't see any light come on.

THis is how I wired mine.

 

this has something to do with this topic but not really. i have the led kit and well a bag full of my ____ (____ meaning clothes etc. cause i was out of town not really my own ____ ) hit my passenger side seat in the back and broke 2 or 3 of the tie straps that hold the lightbar under the seat. do you think that'll be covered under warranty or should i just bend over and take the inexpensive tie straps to the wallet. anybody else have that problem.

I used pattern changing LEDs and I love them. But Cold Cathode are WAY brighter!
