How do you get the buckle and gray piece past the little nubby on the belt that keeps them from sliding down to the floor?

Should I remove the belt from the pillar side too?
I'm a little afraid of screwing up the winding mechanism.

Wrapping them in fabric looks pretty cool. Too bad Wal-mart's fabric department is gone.

I tried to paint one (by masking the belt itself). Even coats are difficult on such an awkward piece. I could possibly paint with a brush.

I cannot find a pic of the seat belt parts painted.

If you look at pics of Ketchup's car, his pillars are painted, but seat belt adjusters are not, to give an example. Surely someone has done it, but Google image is not helping me find who to ask.

The dark gray nub keeps everything from sliding off if I remove the lower bolt. The other side of the belt is where it coils up.

Current status...I only used 3 cans on the headliner, I've heard 7 cans is enough to get full black. It's fine, nobody looks up there

I'm waiting on the Clazzios too.

NO MOAR GRAYNESS!

Good work Zman. I've thought about doing a decantered paint with a deerfoot type of brush to push the paint on... but never got froggy enough to jump on it.

Wow. Okay that would work. I'm gonna have to do that.

I might take out my headliner and add some paint too.

Picked up this sweet fabric for the hatch insert for $7.86. It looks better in person, trust me!

I'm thinking about doing this to the whole headliner, but I can't decide.

So I should just add paint? I wanted something that felt better to the touch though.

If you do another headliner over it, just make sure you use expensive, professional grade adhesive not cheap joann fabric kind,

i just did one in my cobalt and it fell down not 2 weeks later and I used 18$ a can stuff.

Ah I see. Well I wont worry about it for now. Joann's is the only fabric store around here.

Ill post some pics if I can. They were all new so they didn't really show much.

I have never tried spraying the headliner seems easy enough thats for sure. However the paint small seems like a difficult time especially with 7 coats on there.

Has anyone tried fiberglassing a new one then sanding to a gloss finish?

I've seen even oem headliners fall off over time and pins needed to be stuck in them, it looks terrible, I wouldn't want that at all. There's a DIY on SL on rewrapping but he doesn't go into detail on what kind of adhesive he used. I think if I got 3 more cans of fabric paint I could get a dark enough black. Right now it looks spotty but it's an improvement over light gray.

Agreed. I have never heard of fabric paint. While using it have you noticed a difference over normal paint? Texture, spray quality, tackiness?

It seems the same, plus the headliner material is barely a fabric it seems. I'm sure any paint would work. That hammered paint would be cool, a stone looking headliner or something.

Question, where do people get Dynamat? Do I have to find an audio shop?

My headliner is out so I could deaden the roof easily. I'm fixing my light setup with foot well, shelf and truck lights attached to the dome light while the roof is out too.

got any pics of the lights? I am lost on what you mean.

textured paint does work well for the headliners for sure. my buddy did it on his VW golf.

I have LED strips n such and am soldering all the +'s under the left front pillar area and all the negatives on the right, then running a main wire for +/- to the terminals on the dome light bulb.

Here's an old poor quality pic:

Here's my back hatch cover, I haven't sewed in a while and never used an iron before!

I think it looks really good. Hopefully I can press it in with the cloth around the underside where the plastic push pins go.

As for finding dynamat, or any good sound deadening material, any suggestions besides buying online?

I'd like to hit some parts of my car while it is taken apart.

The pins popped in easily and now they are hidden! =]

How did you hide the pins? That looks great!

I would say the biggest market for dynamat would be Bestbuy but I will not endorse buying electrical from them they are scam artists. Online is your best shot. Try ebay or maybe Crutchfield.

I superglued the pins on before I put the fabric on top of it. That way they stayed in place while I sewed the fabric together on the back side. Then I pressed the panel on.
No glue use at all, the fabric can be pulled tight enough against itself to make it wrinkle free.

Nice! Do you have a picture of the sewing on the back side?

It's quite a mess, I took one when I first started.

The round areas are a bit more difficult. I cut the corner into three sections, and twisted each piece of cloth and pulled it tight. I did this on either side and sewed them together, making sure to pull tightly on any slack.

As for the headliner, I used 3 more cans of fabric paint from Autozone, I used 3 before, and it wasn't solid enough.

It looks a lot better now. I still feel that I should have tried to at least wrap it, but I spent the money on paint instead.

As for adding lights to the dome light, to get the unlock and fade effects, I ripped everything I had out and I'm redoing it and soldering as many connections along the way so I can sleep at night.

To splice into the dome terminals, isn't easy to do neatly. I wanted to do this,

but there isn't enough clearance between the dome and roof. I've seen a guy twist the wire around the hole in each terminal and solder that. He took a lot of flak for it, but it certainly works.

Tomorrow I'm going to put the headliner back in and all my painted pillars too. I have some cleaning to do:
