Default iPod to AUX input?

Ok, I searched long and hard and didnt find much.
I wanna hook up my iPod (Wish I got iPod radio now) to the aux port.

Do I just need a simple cable with two 3.5mm connectors on it?
Assuming I can get this at radioshack?

yes a 3.5 to 3.5 cable is all you need. and radioshack should have it . if not just spring for the pocketdock and get better sound quality and such. as well as the pocket dock comes with the 3.5-3.5 as well as 3.5 to rca's

so pocketdock will provide better sound?

What would cause it to be any better?

Is this what you are talking about?

yeah i got my brother a belkin fm modulator (the kind you can tune to ANY FM station 87.9-108.0mhz) it's extremely clear.. people say that fm modulators are bad.. no it was very good..

so yeah belkin makes some good stuff, i bet that would work fine (what you showed at the link)

it will be better since it will not be going through the internal amp . aka cleaner sound.

oh and any fm modulator will be of inferior quality. i have an i trip but only so i can play it in ANY car. for my own car i have an rca-ipbus connector hooked into the rear of my pioneer and then a rca-3.5 from the converter to my pocket dock which plugs into my ipod.

my pocket dock has a firewire outlet also which i use a firewire car charger. all the wires are behind the dash and i have about a foot lead on them so that i can take the ipod out and control it when need be. it's all tucked into the cubby in the middle of the dash. under the a/c controls.

well this is not an fm thingy http://www.theistore.com/belkinautokit.html

"The Belkin Auto Kit is an iPod car charger plus it adds an adjustable amplifier audio output. What this means is that you only have to make one connection to your iPod in the car. Just connect the Auto Kit cable to the bottom Dock Connector of your iPod or iPod mini and the other end into the cigarette lighter jack. Your iPod will be powered and charged by the cable. To connect the audio to your car stereo, you can connect a tape adapter or FM transmitter to the line output jack on the cigarette lighter plug. The unit is engineered with a replaceable safety fuse to protect from potentially damaging spikes or short circuits. "

Seems like it would make things simple... but i dont know if the amplifier in it is a good thing?

yeah i was mentioning the fm modulator from belkin because i was surprised how good it sounded, and yes some FM modulators may be inferior but not this one from belkin.. don't knock all FM Modulators til you try this one, I was really surprised at how good it was.. seriously!

My point in mentioing that was because i was happy with Belkin's quality.. so i assumed this auto kit that ericc was mentioning is probably good based on my experience..

the audio amplifier would be pretty good since i've heard some MP3 players don't put out a strong enough (loud enough) audio output, that would come in handy to amplify the sound..

no the sound output from the dock which is the true un filtered un altered sound is quite loud. almost as loud as max volume but doesnt go through the earphone amp and no frequencies are getting amplified over any others.

and ipods put out loud enough. the quality of each mp3 may be different but that is why you get high quality mp3's

Slightly off topic...

My Monster iPod power/FM Tuner is worthless. When I have anything else (cell phone/radar detector) plugged in, it gets major static AND/OR a loud constant ringing. I love its tun-able range, but for $80 when I bought it, I could have bought something better. Buyer Beware.

A Belkin where you live that is crystal clear could sound like total crap where I live. It's not the manufacturer/tehcnology, as so much it is where you live. Friend of mine got the iTrip because everyone praised, only to find out that it's pretty useless here in Orlando. The quality is so bad, she never uses it.

Ok,

Call me stupid, but where the heck is this "auxiliary jack" you guys referred to??

I drive an XA and would like nothing more than to find this mystery plug in order to jack my iPod into it....

If I don't find out soon, I may just be tempted to take my console apart to inspect the rear of my radio...

Thanks for any clues...

If you have a 2006 your AUX input is near the parking brake. Otherwise, you dont have one.

holy smokes, I get what you are talking about now! I went and looked up the brochure for the TC and saw it there! It is standard and not part of the iPod Accessory upgrade as I had originally understood!

Now that bites! I sure would like one of those in my car!!

I guess I am going to have to figure out how to run one of those through my current system....

Thanks for the reply!
