Default Kenwood 6.5's in the xA

Hi people.

Quick question in regards to some speakers I'm looking at for the system I'm building for my xA. I've heard very good things about the Kenwood KFC-1669S 6 1/2" 2 way door speakers. I was originally planning to put a set of Pioneer 5 1/4" speakers in but the Kenwoods are priced the same and have nicer construction and power handling.

The description on Crutchfield and on the KenwoodUSA catalog show that the top mount depth is less than two inches. If I'm not mistaken the maximum depth for a speaker in the xA is 3 inches.

So, the big question is: will these speakers fit in the factory openings with the use of the speaker adaptors that crutchfield includes or will I have to fabricate a spacer for them to fit in the openings?

Here is a link to the product page:

you should be OK using the crutchfield provided brackets... shouldn't have any problems at all actually....

you should be fine, why not go with component speakers?

they would sound better, you would have to put them on an amp but it would be a much cleaner sound, and louder if you fancied

depending on the components, you don't always have to amp them....some comps are rated at 15-40 watts RMS and a good aftermarket deck can push that RMS(around 22RMS/50peak).....

Components would probably sound better though!!!

i would go with components on an amp, it would cost a little more, but i think the sound quality would be worth it, it all depends on you, you could just get a nice set of components and put them on an amp, it would sound great, MB Quarts has good ones, etc etc etc, everyone has thier favorites as far as stero goes

Thanks for the replies guys. At this time I'm not going with components because of both budget limitations and the fact that I feel I can achieve good results with some standard equipment that is properly configured for the vehicle. In the future if I feel that the set-up I have chosen needs improvement or more "umphh" I can always go with a quality set of components.
