Default Linear Actuator for Hatch Strut?

Has anyone ever thought of or used a linear actuator or actuators in lieu of the rear hatch strut(s)? I just thought it would be cool, especially if you have an aftermarket alarm that you could wire it to. Mark

Yeah, I have thought of doing that. In fact I have a thread going right now looking for how to get it done. Ideally what I would like to do is have the hatch pop open with my trunck release on my alarm. Problem seems to be that no one seems to be replying on my thread. I will definitely be watching this one too. Hopefully someone will give us an idea on how to do this. SmartAss has mentioned that there is a way to do it but it is cost prohibitive, somewhere over a thousand dollars. I do hope someone can give us a nice little trick to get this done.

I can't see it being all that bad. I think some alarms should have a macro function to unlock doors and then hit the actuators. I would talk to some of the competent alarm install shops in the area. Mark
