Default Looking for XB Audio suggestions

Time to upgrade the stereo in my XB.

I'm leaning towards keeping the stock head unit and upgrading speakers and adding a 10" sub under the pass seat with amp under the drivers seat.

I may add an amp for the speakers as well.

Any suggestions on speakers, sub and amp?

Is the existing head unit worth upgrading? Or by the time I buy an amp for the speakers as well as the harness to hook up the sub, I might as well buy a new head unit?

I'm a 47 yr old guy that does like it loud. And I also have to keep up with the 15 yr old son! Dad has to "pimp" his car out. Hey the LED's I put in the cup holders are cool!!

Any feedback would be appreciated

i would replace the stock head unit only because i tried it with my kicker comp cvr 12s and it sounded ok but the bass over powered the radio even with the amp all the way down so i replaced it with a sony explode m630 head unit and the sound quality i got was awsome. I also competed in a soundoff and with the stock unit only blew 102.8 with the aftermarket headunit i blew 151.7 with the amp down with it up i blew 188.4

^^^ if you're talking dB, you're smoking some really great crack!!!! world record is somewhere around 170dB... unless you had the mic inside the port and even then, 188.4 would be damn near impossible....

With the right line level converter, you can keep the stock HU and get competition winning SQ, you just gotta know what to look at... JL Audio Cleansweep units are about the best OEM interface adaptation units available, but you'll pay for their performance.... you'd be better off to get an aftermarket HU IMO...
